Dragon Ball Z is the direct sequel anime to the original Dragon Ball, broadcast on Fuji TV from April 26, 1989 to January 31, 1996. Its 291 episodes cover the arrival of Raditz, the Saiyan and Namek arcs, the rise of Frieza and Cell, and the final battle against Majin Buu. It is the era of the franchise where Goku and his allies move from martial-arts adventure into galactic warfare, and it remains the most-watched Dragon Ball series worldwide.

Ep. 1The New Threat

Five years after the events of Dragon Ball, a mysterious alien warrior lands on Earth. After brushing aside a terrified farmer, the invader sets out in search of someone called "Kakarot," while Goku enjoys peaceful family life with his young son Gohan.

Ep. 2Reunions

Goku introduces Gohan to his old friends at Kame House, but the reunion is cut short when the alien warrior Raditz arrives, reveals Goku's Saiyan heritage, and kidnaps Gohan to force his brother into submission.

Gohan falls into an underground cavern and discovers an ancient robot buried for eighty years. The two form a brief friendship before the robot sacrifices itself to send Gohan back to the surface as the ruins collapse around them.

Gohan bonds with an injured dinosaur in the wilderness while Krillin recruits Yamcha from his baseball career to join the Z Fighters at Kami's Lookout. A predator attack teaches Gohan a harsh lesson about the limits of kindness.

Vegeta and Nappa detour to the insectoid planet Arlia, where they demolish a tyrant king and his forces for entertainment. After briefly being hailed as heroes by the freed inhabitants, Vegeta destroys the entire planet as they leave.

While traveling Snake Way, Goku stumbles upon the palace of Princess Snake, who tries to seduce him into staying forever. When charm fails, she reveals her true form as a giant serpent and attempts to devour him whole.

Piccolo pushes his training to the limit by splitting himself in two to fight his own clone. Meanwhile, Gohan discovers he is stranded on a deserted island, builds a raft to escape, and is caught in a violent ocean storm.

Gohan washes ashore and is taken in by a group of orphan children led by the resourceful Pigero. After bonding with the group and nearly reaching home, Gohan chooses to return to his training, inspired by the orphans' bravery.

Ep. 73Gohan, Defeat Your Dad!!

Ginyu maxes out Goku's stolen body at a pitiful 23,000, proving he cannot unlock the Kaio-ken. Gohan and Krillin gain the upper hand until Vegeta emerges from hiding, brutally kills Jeice, and pummels Ginyu into submission, only for the captain to prepare one final body switch.

Ep. 74Captain Ginyu... The Frog

Goku intercepts Ginyu's body swap beam to reclaim his own form, then cleverly throws a Namekian frog into the path of Ginyu's final attempt. The captain is trapped forever in a tiny amphibian body, and the heroes settle into Frieza's ship to recover.

Ep. 75Password is Porunga

Dende reaches Gohan and Krillin with the Dragon Ball password while Vegeta naps. Nail's sacrifice is revealed as a deliberate stalling tactic, sending Frieza into a rage. The Namekian dragon Porunga rises from the earth, granting three wishes instead of one.

Ep. 76Piccolo's Return

Piccolo is revived and transported to Namek as Porunga's first two wishes. Vegeta wakes up, discovers the betrayal, and demands Dende wish him immortal. But Guru dies before the third wish can be completed, the Dragon Balls turn to stone, and Frieza arrives.

Ep. 77The Fusion

Piccolo discovers the dying Nail and performs the first Namekian fusion in the series, gaining a massive power boost. Vegeta, Gohan, and Krillin engage Frieza directly, with Vegeta matching the tyrant's first form and recklessly demanding he transform.

Frieza sheds his armor and begins transforming as a flashback reveals King Vegeta's doomed rebellion and the destruction of Planet Vegeta. In the present, Frieza's monstrous second form boasts a power level over one million, and he wastes no time impaling Krillin on his horn.

Ep. 79Gohan Attacks

Frieza toys with Krillin's impaled body before discarding him into the sea. Gohan snaps, unleashing a rage-powered assault that briefly staggers the tyrant. But Frieza recovers quickly, and Gohan finds himself on the receiving end of a brutal beating with no one able to intervene.

Ep. 80Piccolo the Super-Namek

Krillin makes a daring rescue, slicing Frieza's tail with a Destructo Disc and blinding him with the Solar Flare. Dende reveals his healing ability, restoring Gohan to fighting shape. But the real game-changer arrives when Piccolo touches down on the battlefield, ready to face Frieza alone.

Ep. 81Déjà vu

Piccolo and second-form Frieza clash in a surprisingly even fight. The Namekian reveals his fusion with Nail, taunting Frieza for failing to keep up despite transforming. But when the dust settles from their fiercest exchange, Frieza blocked at the last moment; the combined might of Piccolo and Nail still falls short.

Ep. 82Frieza's Second Transformation

Piccolo sheds his weighted clothing and overwhelms second-form Frieza completely. But the tyrant reveals he has two transformations remaining and shifts into his grotesque third form. The power gap reverses instantly, and Frieza begins bombarding Piccolo with finger beams he cannot dodge.

Ep. 83Another Transformation?

Gohan's Wild Rush Blaster nearly overwhelms third-form Frieza, but the tyrant pushes it back. Vegeta convinces Krillin to blast a hole through his stomach so Dende's healing can trigger a Saiyan power boost. Frieza, meanwhile, completes his terrifying final transformation.

Ep. 84Dende's Demise

Final-form Frieza wastes no time, executing Dende with a Death Beam to eliminate the heroes' healing advantage. Vegeta, freshly powered up, declares himself a Super Saiyan and takes on Frieza alone. His attacks look impressive at first, but Piccolo sees through the display: Vegeta is still hopelessly outmatched.

Ep. 85The Renewed Goku

Vegeta throws everything he has at final-form Frieza, but his most powerful blast is simply swatted back at him. Broken in body and spirit, Vegeta collapses in tears for the first time in his life. Frieza brutalizes him mercilessly, but a beeping medical machine signals hope: Goku has finally healed.

Ep. 86The End of Vegeta

Goku arrives on the battlefield just in time and meets Frieza face-to-face for the first time. He kicks the tyrant square in the jaw, becoming the first person to hurt Frieza in his final form. Vegeta, mortally wounded by a Death Beam through the heart, tearfully reveals the truth about the Saiyan genocide before dying in Goku's arms.

Ep. 87The Ultimate Battle

Goku and final-form Frieza begin their legendary duel in earnest. The two seem evenly matched, trading blows that demolish the Namekian landscape. Frieza creates a lava pit to swallow Goku, but Goku survives and forces the magma back underground, warning Frieza to leave the planet out of their fight.

Goku and Frieza collide in a full-power slugfest across Namek's ravaged landscape. After being trapped in Frieza's deadly Imprisonment Ball, Goku escapes with barely a scratch, proving he belongs on this battlefield. Back on Earth, Chi-Chi's desperate mission to rescue Gohan spirals into comedy.

Ep. 89Frieza's Boast

Frieza arrogantly challenges Goku to fight without using his hands, and their brutal exchange proves shockingly even. Meanwhile, Captain Ginyu, trapped in a frog's body, tricks Bulma into building him a translator device and steals her body with his infamous Body Change technique.

Ep. 90Bold and Fearless

Frieza reveals he has been fighting at a fraction of his true strength and powers up to fifty percent, immediately turning the tide against Goku. On King Kai's Planet, the dead warriors sense the shift with dread. Captain Ginyu, hiding in Bulma's body, nearly blows his cover among Goku's allies.

Ginyu's body-swap scheme collapses when Gohan throws Bulma's frog body into the beam, restoring everyone to normal. On the battlefield, Frieza nearly drowns Goku, but a horrifying vision of his loved ones dying ignites a desperate Kaio-ken x20 Kamehameha that singes the tyrant's palm.

Ep. 92Trump Card

With every technique exhausted and Frieza battering him relentlessly, Goku plays his absolute final card: the Spirit Bomb. Arms raised to the sky, he begins gathering energy from the entire planet while Frieza ignorantly mistakes the gesture for surrender.
