The Leak and What It Means

Reports from Geekdom indicate that Dragon Ball Super: Beerus, the enhanced remake of the original Dragon Ball Super's Battle of Gods arc, has completed production ahead of its Fall 2026 premiere. The reported six-episode series was first announced at the Dragon Ball Genkidamatsuri event in January, where voice actor Koichi Yamadera (Beerus) and Executive Producer Akio Iyoku confirmed the project alongside Masako Nozawa (Goku).

What We Know So Far

According to the official description, the finished product features significant new cuts, redrawn scenes, completely re-rendered footage, newly recorded dubbing, an updated score and sound effects, and a full reconstruction of the story. This isn't a simple upscale or filter job. It's a ground-up reworking of the arc that introduced Beerus and Whis to Dragon Ball fans worldwide. AnimeJapan 2026, running March 28-29 at Tokyo Big Sight, is expected to reveal more details, potentially including a specific premiere date. Toei Animation hasn't officially confirmed the production's completion, but the timing lines up perfectly with a Fall broadcast window on Fuji TV.

Why Finishing Early Is a Big Deal

If you weren't watching Dragon Ball Super when it first aired in 2015, you might not understand why this news matters so much. The original run was, to put it bluntly, a mess in its early episodes. The Battle of Gods and Resurrection 'F' arcs were plagued by infamously poor animation quality. Entire sequences looked unfinished, with distorted character models and stiff fight choreography that became meme-worthy for all the wrong reasons.

Toei's Lesson Learned

The root cause was simple: Toei was rushing production to meet broadcast deadlines. Animators had almost no breathing room, and it showed. The fact that Dragon Ball Super: Beerus is apparently finished months before its premiere is the exact opposite of that situation. This time, the team has had the runway to deliver something polished. The original Dragon Ball Super eventually improved significantly by the Universe 6 and Tournament of Power arcs, where the animation quality caught up with fan expectations. But those first two arcs left a mark on the franchise's reputation that Toei has clearly wanted to address. Dragon Ball Super: Beerus is their chance to finally get the Battle of Gods right in serialized anime form.

The Fourth Retelling of Battle of Gods

Some fans are pointing out an obvious fact: this will be the fourth time Dragon Ball has told the Battle of Gods story. First came the 2013 movie Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods. Then the 2015 Dragon Ball Super anime adaptation. Then Toyotaro's manga version. And now Dragon Ball Super: Beerus. Polygon raised the question back in January that still resonates: does Dragon Ball really need another Battle of Gods? For new fans, the answer is probably yes. A modern, polished version of the story that kicks off Dragon Ball Super is a solid entry point. For veterans, the appeal is seeing the improved animation and the reconstructed narrative.

What Comes Next

What makes the wait worthwhile is what follows. According to Polygon, Resurrection 'F' is also expected to receive a similar six-episode enhanced treatment, and then the franchise moves into Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol, which will finally adapt the Moro arc from the manga for the first time ever in anime. That's the content fans are really hungry for. Dragon Ball Super: Beerus is the bridge that gets us there, and at least now we know that bridge was built with time and care instead of being rushed out the door.
