The Leak and What It Means
What We Know So Far
According to the official description, the finished product features significant new cuts, redrawn scenes, completely re-rendered footage, newly recorded dubbing, an updated score and sound effects, and a full reconstruction of the story. This isn't a simple upscale or filter job. It's a ground-up reworking of the arc that introduced Beerus and Whis to Dragon Ball fans worldwide. AnimeJapan 2026, running March 28-29 at Tokyo Big Sight, is expected to reveal more details, potentially including a specific premiere date. Toei Animation hasn't officially confirmed the production's completion, but the timing lines up perfectly with a Fall broadcast window on Fuji TV.
Why Finishing Early Is a Big Deal
Toei's Lesson Learned
The root cause was simple: Toei was rushing production to meet broadcast deadlines. Animators had almost no breathing room, and it showed. The fact that Dragon Ball Super: Beerus is apparently finished months before its premiere is the exact opposite of that situation. This time, the team has had the runway to deliver something polished. The original Dragon Ball Super eventually improved significantly by the Universe 6 and Tournament of Power arcs, where the animation quality caught up with fan expectations. But those first two arcs left a mark on the franchise's reputation that Toei has clearly wanted to address. Dragon Ball Super: Beerus is their chance to finally get the Battle of Gods right in serialized anime form.
