Moro, known as Planet-Eater Moro, is an ancient and immensely powerful sorcerer who serves as the primary antagonist of the Galactic Patrol Prisoner Saga in the Dragon Ball Super manga. Imprisoned for ten million years after his defeat by the Grand Supreme Kai, Moro possesses the terrifying ability to absorb the life energy of entire planets.
Ten million years before the events of Dragon Ball Super, Moro terrorized Universe 7 by consuming the energy of countless planets and their inhabitants. His magical abilities made him nearly impossible to defeat through conventional combat, as he could drain the ki of anyone who fought him, turning their own strength against them. It took the combined effort of the Grand Supreme Kai and the South Supreme Kai to finally subdue him, and even then, the Grand Supreme Kai had to sacrifice much of his own godly power to seal Moro's magic.
Moro was imprisoned by the Galactic Patrol, where he spent millions of years plotting his escape. When a series of events weakened the barriers containing him, Moro broke free and immediately set about regaining his full power. His first act was to seek the Namekian Dragon Balls, which he used to restore his youth and magical strength. With his power returned, Moro began consuming planets once again, rebuilding his forces by freeing prisoners from the Galactic Patrol's custody and forming the Galactic Bandit Brigade.
Moro's energy absorption ability made him uniquely dangerous to fighters who relied on ki. When Goku and Vegeta confronted him on New Namek, Moro drained their energy during combat, leaving them weakened and helpless. Even Super Saiyan Blue proved insufficient, as Moro simply consumed the energy output of the transformation. This forced both Saiyans to retreat and seek new methods of fighting him.
Vegeta traveled to Planet Yardrat to learn Forced Spirit Fission, a technique that could separate absorbed energy from its thief and return it to its original owners. This ability proved effective against Moro's stolen power, and Vegeta gained the upper hand in their rematch on Earth, systematically stripping Moro of the energy he had consumed from multiple worlds.
Cornered and desperate, Moro resorted to absorbing Seven-Three, an artificial being who had copied the abilities of numerous fighters. This transformation gave Moro access to a vast array of stolen techniques and dramatically increased his power. Goku, having recently mastered the Perfected Ultra Instinct form, engaged Moro in a climactic battle that pushed both combatants to their absolute limits.
When Moro's copied abilities began to expire, he made a final, catastrophic decision: he fused himself with the Earth itself, threatening to detonate the planet and everything on it if he could not win. This act of desperation ultimately led to his downfall. With the help of Uub, who channeled the Grand Supreme Kai's latent divine power, Goku was able to deliver a finishing blow that destroyed Moro and saved the Earth from annihilation.
Moro's defining ability is his energy absorption magic. Unlike fighters who draw upon internal ki reserves, Moro feeds on external sources of energy, draining the life force of planets, organisms, and individual fighters. This power makes prolonged combat against him inherently dangerous, as every attack his opponents launch effectively fuels his regeneration and growth. He can also use this absorbed energy to restore his own vitality, reversing the effects of aging and injury.
Beyond his absorption powers, Moro is a skilled sorcerer who can manipulate the terrain around him, create energy barriers, and unleash powerful magical blasts. His intelligence and cunning should not be underestimated; he spent millions of years planning his escape and demonstrated sophisticated strategic thinking in how he rebuilt his forces and selected his targets.
Moro's role in the Dragon Ball Super manga is significant because he presented a type of threat that raw power alone could not solve. Both Goku and Vegeta had to develop entirely new approaches to combat in order to counter his abilities. Goku refined Ultra Instinct into a more complete state, while Vegeta learned an entirely new school of technique on Yardrat. This made the Moro arc one of the most strategically complex conflicts in modern Dragon Ball, where the heroes had to grow not just in strength but in skill and adaptability.
