Cyan Sung-Sun

Three pink specks sit beneath Sung-Sun's right eye, the mark that identifies her as an Arrancar. Her frame is slim, framed by olive-green hair that falls loose and long, and pale violet eyes rest above heavy lashes. Fragments of her old mask survive as clip-like prongs along the right edge of her bangs, while a band of black fur circles her throat. Her gown is white and floor-length, cut with sleeves so long they swallow her hands, each split by a single slit, and a pair of slender belts cross at her waist. In the seventeen-month lull after Aizen's fall, those mask pieces thicken and trail a strip of cloth over one shoulder, her dress gains a high thigh slit and a furred hem, and she takes to high heels. Back when she ranked as an Adjuchas, she took the shape of a pale gray serpent with a white belly, pink dots flanking her head, and her mask perched on top amid pearl-like beads.

Where her two teammates trade insults, Sung-Sun keeps her voice level and her manner unbothered. She reads as mature and quick-witted, forever reminding the hot-headed Emilou Apacci and her partner Franceska Mila Rose that raised voices only advertise weakness, then needling them when they snap back. A lifted sleeve usually screens her mouth, leaving an unreadable glint in her eyes. Beneath the calm runs a streak of condescension: she resents it when the pair blunder into her path mid-fight, and she enjoys goading them, waving a hand at her face as though they are beneath her notice.

Long before she joined Aizen's ranks, Sung-Sun ran with Harribel as a snake-like Hollow, and the anime shows the pair welcoming Apacci into their pack after Harribel spares her. Installed at Las Noches, she stands beside her mistress to watch Ichigo Kurosaki duel Grimmjow, then marches on the counterfeit Karakura Town with the assembled Espada. There she, Apacci, and Mila Rose gang up on Tōshirō Hitsugaya and his lieutenant Rangiku Matsumoto, and when the fight turns sour the three shear off their left arms to birth the monstrous Ayon through their shared technique. That beast is undone by Captain-Commander Yamamoto, whose flames also scatter the trio. Years later, during the Wandenreich assault on Hueco Mundo, Sung-Sun coolly volunteers to face the invader Quilge Opie alone while her comrades bicker, dismissing them as primates. Quilge overpowers all three, but they rally to loose Ayon on him again, and after he absorbs the creature she shrouds the survivors in her shed-skin cloak, hiding them until Ichigo intervenes.
