Appearance

In his Gigai, Kurōdo cuts a dapper, showman-like figure. His hair falls to the upper back in two colors split down the middle, black on one side and yellow on the other, tapering to a point with shoulder-length strands framing his face. A thin mustache and glasses round out the look. He favors a multicolored suit over a white shirt and gray tie, topped with a gray top hat and matching boots. When stored inside a plushie, he becomes a pink, rabbit-like purse that keeps its own colorful jacket and tie.

Personality

Timid by nature, he is especially rattled by snakes, and his rambling speech and antics play mostly for laughs. He shares a streak of Kon's lecherousness, or at least welcomes the chance to be carried around by attractive women, a perk his purse form makes easy. Orihime, his assigned partner, once joked that she, Rukia, and Kurōdo formed a love triangle.

History

Kurōdo first surfaces during the anime's Bount storyline, disguised as Orihime's late brother Sora in order to abduct her and set off a game arranged by Ririn. He shifts into Orihime herself to seize Chad, and even after Ichigo's group escapes a maze built by Ririn and Noba, it turns out he is still impersonating one of the rescued friends. Yoruichi and Suì-Fēng startle him into dropping the ruse. The truth emerges soon after: he is a Mod Soul planted alongside Ririn and Noba, each carrying a Bount radar that Urahara implanted so Ichigo could track the Bount down. Urahara then pairs him with Orihime and tucks him into a toy to stay inconspicuous.

He fights the Bount Yoshi beside Rukia and Orihime, is taken back to the Urahara Shop after the clash with Mabashi, and later aids Kon against Grand Fisher by mimicking Ichigo, only to be swatted aside. During the Arrancar raids on Karakura Town, the three Mod Souls back Renji, with Kurōdo copying his form to multiply and teleport around Yylfordt Granz before being cut down once the Arrancar unleashes his Reiatsu. When the Arrancar Patros storms the shop hunting Urahara, Kurōdo helps again, and it is his interception of Patros's appendage, guided by Noba's warping, that buys Renji the opening to finish the enemy.

His defining gift is shape-shifting: he can match a target's appearance and voice unnoticed, imitate their mannerisms, and even borrow their abilities, though never past his own power ceiling, which rules out advanced feats like a Shinigami's Bankai. Anyone who senses spirit energy can still tell him apart from the real person. Urahara also fitted him, like Ririn and Noba, with long-range Reishi sensors tuned to detect Bount and their dolls. As a Mod Soul in a Gigai, he cannot truly die so long as his soul candy stays intact.
