True Identity of the Devil, the Secret which is Revealed

On a riverbank at night, Ichigo, Orihime, Uryu, Renji, and Kon puzzle over how to rescue Sado from Ririn, Kurōdo, and Noba. Fireworks suddenly light the sky and a note flutters down ordering them to destroy a gate within thirty minutes. A colossal skeletal portal descends over the town and unleashes a violent suction that drags the friends helplessly into the air. Ichigo tries to force his Bankai to break the pull, but his Reiatsu simply fizzles out, and all of them are swallowed by the gate. They wake inside the misty Study Chamber beneath the Urahara Shop, where the Mod-Souls stage a final challenge, trapping Sado under a sand-filled hourglass with a five-minute countdown to suffocation.

Kurōdo shapeshifts into a copy of Ichigo wielding a duplicate Zangetsu, while Noba's portals redirect Renji's own Shikai back into his spine. Even when Ichigo fires a Getsuga Tenshō, Noba absorbs it and hurls it back at him. His Bankai fails again and again. Then, unexpectedly, the hourglass simply cracks and shatters, freeing an unharmed Sado whose ropes had already loosened. Spotting Urahara's hat on the ground, Ichigo realizes the whole ordeal was orchestrated by the shopkeeper himself.

Urahara emerges and confirms it: the games were designed to test stamina, teamwork, judgment, and self-awareness, and Sado, who spent his captivity playing shogi over tea, was never in danger. His hard lesson is that Ichigo can no longer summon his Bankai freely in the living world and must relearn it, because the threat of the Hōgyoku cannot be ignored. He also reveals that Uryu quietly lost his Quincy powers in Soul Society, prompting Ichigo to scold him less for the weakness than for not trusting his friends. Even the town's destruction turns out to be another illusion, and the abducted classmates are found safe in the mountains.

Running parallel to the games, Suì-Fēng slips into the living world alone at Ukitake and Yoruichi's arrangement while Soul Society seals the Senkaimon to study a foreign element. Yoruichi, in cat form, and Suì-Fēng recover Reishi residue and transmit it to the Research Institute, where Hiyosu and Rin find it matches no existing data. The pair then track down Yoshino Sōma luring a hypnotized guard, and Yoruichi drives her off after confirming she was trying to devour his soul.

Hitsugaya, drawn into the investigation, presses Ukitake and Shunsui for answers and agrees to assist the next day. The episode closes as Yoruichi drops into the Study Chamber and announces the enemy's name: a Bount has appeared. Urahara notes Aizen will need over a year to mature the stolen Hōgyoku, buying time to strengthen Ichigo. The light Shinigami Illustrated Picture Book segment has a bashful Suì-Fēng offer Yoruichi a box of chocolates, only for the cat-formed Yoruichi to ignore the gift entirely. This anime-only installment reworks how the group learns of Uryu's power loss, moving the reveal to Urahara's casual comparison.
