Renji Abarai vents about how tough Ririn, Kurodo, and Noba proved to fight, while Urahara reveals his analysis found no Reimon in their earlier phone call, meaning the three are neither human nor Shinigami. Since their powers seem Kido-based, a direct Getsuga Tensho would be far too destructive, and Renji cannot trust his limiter-bound Bankai, leaving Uryu's Quincy aim as the group's safest weapon. A taunting call from Ririn summons them to the Karakura Museum.

Ordered to surrender their Zanpakuto into display cases mocking their sword names, an irritated Ichigo and Renji comply, then step into a nine-by-nine tiled chamber that appears to repeat forever through its doorways. Every attempt to walk out loops them back, and illusory pitfalls, hallucinogenic mist, and false rooms keep herding them in circles. Uryu ties off a ball of red yarn to map their path, and when yanking Kon back along the thread drags him through every room in one continuous line, Uryu recognizes the layout as a Mobius strip built from twisted space.

The real breakthrough comes when Ichigo and Renji, sick of each other, storm off in opposite directions. With the group split across three widely separated spaces, Uryu spots the warp in the air and realizes the maze only needs them to occupy three points at once rather than move as a cautious pack. He sprints across a collapsing floor that holds firm beneath him and the illusion dissolves, dumping everyone back in the main hall. When Noba grabs him from behind, Uryu jams Ichigo's Substitute Shinigami Badge into his leg, ejecting a Gikongan and confirming his hunch that the trio are Modified Souls, their faint Reiatsu matching Kon's. The team learns the Mod-Souls cannot be safely struck with high-powered Zanpakuto attacks and must rely on Uryu. Inside the museum labyrinth, Uryu deduces the space is folded like a Mobius strip and that splitting up is the solution. He exposes Ririn, Kurodo, and Noba as Modified Souls by forcing Noba's Gikongan out with the badge, winning the game and freeing Orihime and Sado, before Ririn calls them to Karakura High School for the next challenge.

An anime-original chapter of the Bount arc with no manga basis, the episode is framed as part of the Mod-Soul Training and set to the opening Ichirin No Hana and the ending My Pace.
