Ichigo makes clear he does not trust Kugo, who hands him a small item anyway. Home again, he congratulates Yuzu on her strong first exam results and notes that their father has been absent since morning, wishing idly he still had the senses to locate him. Orihime turns up at his window with a box of surplus bread, and after some flustered small talk she hints that he seems to be under someone's watch, a suspicion he deflects with a joke before she retracts it.

Meanwhile Uryu, arriving near the clinic, spots a stranger calmly reading atop the building who then vanishes. Giving chase, he registers that the figure moves without human speed yet leaves no ripple in the surrounding spirit particles, ruling out flash step. A glint of light on a utility pole distracts him an instant before the man strikes. Alerted by a nearby commotion, Ichigo looks out to find Uryu sprawled and bleeding in the street, while the object Kugo gave him proves to be a card bearing the phrase welcome to our Xcution.

The chapter introduces the group's calling card and stages the first attack of the arc, cutting down Uryu and confirming a new kind of enemy who leaves no spiritual trace. It also plants Orihime's uneasy intuition about Ichigo being followed.
