Appearance

Yuzu presents a softer picture than her twin. She keeps her light blond hair short, parted so the fringe falls to the right of her brow, with a red strawberry clip pinned on the left, and her dark brown eyes look gentler than Karin's. She favors more girlish clothing, often a green hooded sweatshirt, with an apron added whenever she cooks. Seventeen months on, her hair grows to shoulder length and she takes to gathering it into a pair of pigtails, each fastened behind an ear with a pink cherry bobble, along with a school sailor uniform. A decade later she returns to a shorter, pigtail-free style.

Personality

Gentler and more openhearted than Karin, Yuzu is the tender center of the household. After their mother's death she took up the role of homemaker, cooking, cleaning, and even trimming Ichigo's hair, and she looks up to her big brother with real devotion, growing anxious whenever he vanishes for more than a day. She wears her feelings openly, quick to both worried tears and cries of joy. A playful, childlike streak shows through as well, especially when she dotes on Kon, whom she dresses up and calls Bostov without ever guessing his true identity. Her soft heart also makes her easy to fool, as when Rukia's crocodile tears won her a place to stay. Of all Isshin's children she is the closest to their father.

History

Yuzu and her twin Karin were born to Isshin and Masaki Kurosaki, the younger sisters of Ichigo. Unlike her siblings she lacks clear spiritual sight, perceiving ghosts only as faint blurs. When she was very young her mother was killed by the Hollow Grand Fisher, and the loss forced the twins to grow up quickly. Yuzu stepped into the role of the family's mother figure, becoming a skilled cook by the age of eleven and pitching in as a stand-in nurse at the family clinic.

Across Ichigo's adventures she mostly stays on the sidelines, often with her memories of Hollow attacks erased to keep her unaware of the spiritual world. During his absence in Soul Society she joins Don Kanonji's hero troupe, the Karakura Superheroes, as Karakura Yellow, and befriends the cat spirit Raku. She plays a rare central role in the film The Hell Verse, where the Togabito abduct her to lure Ichigo into Hell. In the years after the war she grows up to work as both a nurse and a beautician, and it is still she who cuts her brother's hair.
