Everything But the Rain op.3 "Dark of the Moon"

On a cloudy night in Naruki City, two Shinigami fret that their predecessors both died in the rain before Isshin Shiba drops in behind them with a flimsy excuse about looking for a bathroom, telling them they may go home once it starts to pour. Nearby, White waits on a rooftop as the clouds thicken overhead.

At the Ishida residence, Izumi Ishida harshly interrogates Masaki Kurosaki about her Quincy training over dinner until Ryūken Ishida steps in. Left alone with Ryūken, Masaki brushes off his apology on Izumi's behalf, mockingly compliments the meal, and slips away to her room. Ryūken later admits to Kanae Katagiri that Masaki surely knows she was taken in only to preserve the Echt blood of the clan, and confesses that he wants her happy solely for the future of the Quincy rather than for themselves.

Back at the city's south gate, Isshin decides to bait the killer by unleashing his own Reiatsu, reasoning the enemy hunts either Shinigami or high spiritual pressure. One of the watching Shinigami is abruptly cut in half from behind, and Isshin, halting his output, understands that raw power was never the lure. As two bloodstains spread below, White crashes onto the rooftop behind him, and Isshin is stunned to face a black Hollow staring back.

Isshin stakes out Naruki City to draw out the mysterious killer. The Ishida household's cold treatment of Masaki and the politics of her arranged future are shown. Ryūken privately reveals his conflicted feelings about protecting the Quincy bloodline. Isshin's Reiatsu bait fails, and the black Hollow White finally appears before him.

The chapter closes the fifty-ninth collected volume by introducing White and the Ishida family's role in Masaki's past during the Thousand-Year Blood War arc. Its events were adapted in Episode 377, "Everything But the Rain."
