Yhwach reaches his true prize at the summit of the palace while, far below, the surviving captains and lieutenants gather in Urahara's laboratory. As the Soul King's fate is decided above, the Gotei 13 learns of a desperate plan to chase the invader into the heavens.
Within the sovereign's chambers atop the palace, Yhwach cuts down the last of the attendants and steps up to the Soul King, mocking him as a flawed deity who cannot flee even now. Musing that the ruler may well have foreseen this moment, he buries his Reishi Sword in the crystal-bound chest before him and takes his leave of the being he calls his father.
In the rebuilt Seireitei, Rukia Kuchiki and Renji Abarai reach Kisuke Urahara's laboratory and are startled to find a bandaged Shinji Hirako already there. Marechiyo Omaeda, cradling his sleeping sister Mareyo, gushes about how Shinji's Sakanade bent Bazz-B's Burner Finger 3 away from them at the last second, though Renji recalls that this same man once mocked Shinji behind his back. Sui-Feng silences Omaeda with a punch and explains that Momo Hinamori has only just finished mending the injuries she and Mareyo suffered.
The laboratory door slides open to reveal Urahara, Yushiro Shihoin, Byakuya Kuchiki, and Nanao Ise. After a tearful Sui-Feng dotes on the young Yushiro, Urahara accounts for the many officers still missing, from the independently moving Seventh Division to the unreachable Hitsugaya and Rangiku. He then declares that they will mount an assault on the palace of the Soul King itself, drawing on Yushiro's Tenshi Heiso, Mayuri's pedestal, and the pooled power of everyone gathered. High above, Orihime Inoue's shield carries Ichigo Kurosaki and his friends into the palace, where Ichibe'e Hyosube greets them with an apology and the grim truth that Yhwach cannot be beaten.
Yhwach impales the Soul King with his Reishi Sword. The remaining captains and lieutenants converge on Urahara's laboratory, where Urahara reveals a plan to breach the Soul King Palace using pooled Reiryoku and Yushiro's stolen Tenshi Heiso. Ichigo's group arrives in the palace only for Ichibe'e to warn them that victory over Yhwach is impossible.
