Summary

With sarcastic applause Barem confirms Nayuta's guess and dubs her the former Makima. He presses Denji to turn feral once more, refusing to let him drop the Chainsaw Man mantle, then bellows that Chainsaw Man has shown him a truth: Nayuta is a witch. The pseudo-Chainsaw horde obeys his order to kill her and surges forward, but Quanxi appears and lops off every head in an instant. Scooping up Nayuta, Denji, and Fumiko, she whisks them clear of Barem.

Key Events

A bewildered Fumiko cries out her name, earning only a flat acknowledgment. Quanxi springs from the rooftop with all three in her grip and plummets toward the street, sinking her teeth into Fumiko's bare stomach on the way down and keeping the blood in her mouth. Her legs shatter on impact, yet she gulps the blood and mends at once. The sound draws another swarm of chainsaw-headed attackers, so she lowers the group and again carves the whole crowd apart in well under a second. As she and Barem lock eyes, he likens her to a manga character brought to life. Nearby, Denji, Nayuta, and Fumiko watch hunters from both Public Safety and private outfits trade blows with the mutants. Agents drag the transformed corpses into a row, stack them, and set them ablaze, while a police car broadcasts a Devil outbreak and calls on anyone who passed the extermination exam to pitch in. One agent questions whether the burning is needed; another notes that a transformed body can restart with a ripcord pull so long as blood remains, making fire the surest path to a lasting kill. Then an old man jabs a finger at Denji, shouting that the boy is nothing but a Chainsaw Man imitator.

Notes

Published November 1, 2023 in Volume 17, this Chainsaw Man Church arc installment is titled Kaso. Barem's witch jab echoes Fujimoto's one-shot Yogen no Nayuta, in which a horned devil child is fated to doom the world, while his manga-character remark extends the series' recurring fourth-wall gag.
