Jiji's Mother

Character

Jiji's Mother is a loud, hyperactive woman whose family settled in Byakuja Village for her husband's work, only to fall victim to the cursed house there. Hospitalized after a near-tragedy, she recovered and reunited with her son, bringing her trademark energy back to the Ayase household.

Appearance

She wears her auburn hair short, cut with bangs and falling just below her chin. A hospital gown covered her during her stay there. When she and her family showed up at the Ayase residence ready to pitch in on repairs, she had on a vest beneath a jacket, along with trousers and shoes.

Personality

Her temperament mirrors her son's: boisterous, restless, and decidedly quirky. Rather than simply letting Jiji ride in the truck to the Ayase home, she made him run behind it, taunting his slow pace with finger-gun gestures and loudly trumpeting their arrival. That said, she can switch to polite composure when it matters, as when she sincerely thanked Seiko for looking after Jiji through the couple's hospitalization.

History

The family relocated to Byakuja Village once her husband secured a university position. When their son Jiji began voicing fear about the house and reports of supernatural disturbances surfaced, the parents dismissed his worries. Both later fell ill after Jiji's encounter with an evil spirit, and the family hired spirit mediums to purify the home. The ritual went horribly wrong, claiming the lives of several mediums. Jiji returned to discover his parents hanging from the balcony and rushed to cut them free, but his mother begged him to let her die. She and her husband were taken to the hospital, leaving Jiji to act alone by reaching out to Seiko Ayase on a medium's advice.

During recovery, the couple was visited by Jiji, who was overcome with relief, though his strange movements confused them, since he was piloting an anatomical model's body. After Okarun subdued the Evil Eye, the parents came to collect their son, and the mother graciously reassured a guilt-ridden Seiko who bowed in apology. The following day she had Jiji chase the car again while she hung dangerously out the passenger window, then announced their return so loudly her husband asked her to stop shouting. Her swagger faded into bewilderment at the sight of the fully restored Ayase house, and Momo came out to ask the family to quiet down for her sleeping grandmother.
