The second chapter of Dandadan christens Takakura as 'Okarun,' then traps him and Momo in an eerie sealed space where they outwit the Flatwoods Monster before Okarun begins transforming into Turbo Granny.
Unwilling to share her favorite idol's name with him, Momo forbids Takakura from speaking it near her and decides to call him 'Okarun' instead, a nickname he reluctantly accepts. With morning already arrived, she invites him to her home for fresh clothes. As Okarun steps through the torii gate, he abruptly bursts into flame, and Momo flings him into the nearby river with her powers. She figures out that a talisman fixed to the gate to ward off evil spirits caused the burning and peels it away so he can pass. After changing, Okarun panics over his missing genitals, but Momo reminds him it was his own doing for approaching her at school. He admits he had not wanted to lose the chance at friendship, then concludes Momo could never befriend someone like him. Momo counters that his real flaw is pushing people away without realizing it, and she offers to talk about the paranormal with him, leaving him teary before he ruins the moment with a rude remark.
A doorbell chimes, and Momo, not recognizing the tone, assumes an evil spirit is calling, since her house keeps separate chimes for humans and spirits. Because the talisman had been shielding the home, the two head outside to restore it to the gate. Instead they find night has inexplicably fallen, a wall now seals off the torii and their way back inside, a toxic black mist makes their noses bleed, and a hulking, hostile figure looms. Okarun identifies it as the Flatwoods Monster and tells Momo he can fight it if she holds back Turbo Granny's curse in his head.
Momo complies and marvels at Okarun's speed as he reacts to the creature and bites off its fingers, but she sees the inhuman pace begin to wrack his body and yanks him to safety before it can crush him. Noticing the monster fights like a sumo wrestler, she reasons they can beat it by forcing it down. She suppresses the curse with one hand to have Okarun destroy its right leg while pulling its body down with the other, disintegrating its right hand. The monster sprouts an extra pair of legs to stay upright and hurls Momo into the wall, battering her repeatedly. She then reveals she let it pummel her on purpose to crack the wall and reach the talisman's original spot. Pulling Okarun close, she replants the talisman, incinerating the Flatwoods Monster and returning them to reality. Relieved it is over, Momo faints just as Okarun begins turning into Turbo Granny.
Momo brings Okarun back to her home. The battle of Momo Ayase and Okarun against the Flatwoods Monster unfolds, marking the first time Okarun draws on Turbo Granny's power. After the fight, a Turbo Granny possesses Okarun and readies to devour the unconscious Momo.
