Tenma Funato

Tall and solidly built with a pale complexion, Tenma had grey eyes, and his flat, pale-purple hair framed his face while hiding his right eye. Red markings ran across his features in several places: a pair down each cheek to the jaw, a stroke over the nose, a line beneath each eye, and three sweeping across his forehead. He dressed in dark grey trousers and a dull grey gi worn over a matching shirt, finished with black wristbands, a black haori hung from his shoulders, and a blue scarf.

Recognized as the second most uncontrollable figure in his clan, Tenma was a savage man who despised weakness and would cut down anyone he wrote off as worthless, even forcing new recruits into lethal duels to earn their place. Impatient and quick to anger, he favored a straight charge over careful strategy. His loyalty to family ran fierce, and he lashed out at his own men when they hinted he might lead better than his father or his sharper brother Isari, gratitude for the home his adopted clan had given him fueling that devotion. Toward his younger brother Ikada he stayed scornful, yet above all he craved open acknowledgment from Araumi.

Left behind by his birth parents, Tenma survived by stealing crops and endured the scorn of his island until Araumi's raid arrived. Awed by the man's raw power, he threw himself at Araumi, was easily beaten, and begged to join; impressed, Araumi adopted and trained him, though the chief's focus on his blood children bred jealousy. Tenma mocked Ikada for lacking any gift for battle and dismissed the boy's awakening power at his rite of passage as mere luck of the storm.

During the Great Sea Battle of Kirigakure, Tenma leveled the Land of Water's front-line base with his ship's Chakra Cannon before being sent to secure gold on Dotō Island. He wielded a fiddler crab pincer sealed in a scroll, a weapon that could shear through steel and fling water blades, and with it he took on Kagura Karatachi and Kawaki together. His fortress and cannon were ultimately destroyed when Boruto's group turned the weapon on it, and Tenma swore vengeance.

Impatient with his brother Isari's cautious tactics against the Mizukage's forces, Tenma slipped away with a squad to strike Chōjūrō under cover of night fog. Chōjūrō anticipated the ambush and overpowered him; refusing to yield and proclaiming the Funato would destroy Kirigakure, Tenma forced the swordsman to cut him down. He tumbled overboard to his death, still grieving that his father's praise had never come. His loss pushed Isari toward a truce, deepened Ikada's hatred of Kirigakure, and was mourned bitterly by Araumi.
