Megumi Hanajima

Drooping purple eyes give him an unsettling stare, framed by messy bangs and short, faintly wavy black hair that reaches his ears. As a boy he is ordinary in height and build with a pale complexion, and he dresses head to toe in black without exception. Grown up, he stretches taller and fills out into a leaner, broader frame with sharper eyes and firmer features, still committed to black in the form of a dark suit over a matching shirt.

Soft-spoken and faintly sinister, Megumi has a habit of unsettling people with what comes out of his mouth, and he gravitates toward shady schemes, especially any that spook the Prince Yuki Fan Club. He carries himself with startling maturity, including a romantic streak that leads Arisa Uotani to liken him to a lecherous old man, and he admits older women fluster him. That eeriness sits alongside real warmth: he adores Saki, appoints himself bodyguard to her, Arisa, and Tohru Honda, and shows wisdom past his years, once lecturing the fan club that forcing one-sided love on Yuki Sohma will only earn his resentment, words that even settle Saki's own quiet jealousy.

Megumi grew up in an affectionate home with his sister, parents, and grandmother, and when classmates ostracized Saki over her powers, he prayed for someone who would accept her, a wish answered by Tohru and Arisa. Like his sister he claims supernatural ability, though he cannot sense waves as she does and is never actually shown cursing anyone; his method requires only a target's name. That threat becomes his weapon when the Prince Yuki Fan Club comes hunting Saki's weakness: seated at her side, he rattles off the intruders' names and sends them fleeing, with Saki teasing that a curse will land in three days. He also joins Saki in gathering up a distraught Tohru after the truth about Kureno Sohma breaks her down. In Fruits Basket Another he teaches at Kaibara Municipal High School as Sawa Mitoma's homeroom instructor, strikes up a friendship with Makoto Takei, jokingly offers to curse anyone troubling Sawa, and lights up on learning she has met his nephew, Rio Mosca.
