Appearance

Haschwalth is a tall, handsome, young-looking man with a slender frame, blonde eyelashes, and long blonde hair spilling past his shoulders. His usual dress reworks the Sternritter whites: the hooded cloak, a fur-trimmed trench coat befitting his rank, a green belt with a gold buckle, and white trousers and shoes. As a boy his hair reached only his chin and he carried a hunting bow, while as a teenager he wore a sleeveless black shirt and light pants and kept a double-edged sword sheathed at his hip.

Personality

Though he speaks to Yhwach more casually than most, Haschwalth stays deeply respectful and utterly loyal, prepared to live or die for his emperor and quick to hold back hotheads like Bazz-B rather than second-guess Yhwach's choices. Above all he believes in balance, holding that a fight should be fair and that fortune won by luck must be repaid with equal misfortune, a conviction he enforces even against his own allies. Perceptive and composed, he saw straight through Uryū Ishida's reason for joining the Wandenreich and lost his temper only when the young Quincy proved unwilling to sacrifice for power. In childhood he was calm but self-doubting, forming a bond with Bazz-B whose friendship emblem he keeps long after severing their ties.

Abilities

Haschwalth is the only Quincy besides Yhwach able to bestow power on others, the first such in the two centuries since the emperor's birth, and unlike his peers he was born unable to draw Reishi in at all, capable only of giving it out. Simply being near another Quincy strengthens them, as it did the young Bazz-B, and because he and Yhwach form two sides of one scale, their powers swap whenever the emperor falls asleep, handing Haschwalth The Almighty and its glimpses of the future while his eyes split into three like Yhwach's own.

His Schrift, The Balance, gathers the misfortune within his reach and redirects it onto those who have enjoyed good luck, which is how he cut down Cang Du in spite of that Sternritter's defenses; harm meant for him is instead absorbed into his shield, Freund Schild, and flung back at whoever inflicted it. Having trained for years to make up for his weak Quincy talent, he grew into a master swordsman and archer, moves as a Hirenkyaku expert, and defends himself with Blut. As Grandmaster his spiritual power lets him defeat captain-level opponents such as Bazz-B and Uryū and hold his own briefly against the Royal Guard's Tenjirō Kirinji.
