Appearance

Pale to a remarkable degree and as tall and slender as the bulk of his crewmates, Laffitte taps out a dancing step as he walks owing to his footwear, which oddly leaves his stealth intact. An unnaturally dark red colors his lips. His wardrobe runs to an off-white collared shirt dotted with yellow crosses over navy overall-style pants, finished by his signature black top hat, a red wooden cane, and gold hoop earrings. Taking command of the fifth ship added a feather-collared cape to the outfit.

Personality

His sheriff days ended in banishment for unchecked brutality, yet the Laffitte of the present reads as calm and agreeable, a near-constant smile on his face. He made no move to defend his crew when Ace struck, whistling his way to a safe distance, but he beamed with glee while shooting Whitebeard dead and delighted in the havoc Teach unleashed at Marineford. Even his threats stay polished and courteous, as when he cautioned Avalo Pizarro against angling to unseat Teach, and he scolded Burgess for addressing their leader as anything other than admiral. Belief in fate, fortune, and dreams runs through him as it does the whole crew, and his devotion to Teach never wavers.

History

Stripped of the lawman's authority he once held after his exile, Laffitte now commands the crew's fifth ship as one of the Titanic Captains who guard the Emperor in person. His fighting strength is never spelled out, yet his seat in a band that turns away weaklings, the alarm he drew from Vice Admiral Tsuru, and his nerve in menacing a Level 6 brute like Pizarro all point to real power. Stealth is his specialty: he stole unseen into Mary Geoise past several Warlords and ranks of Marines, and he mesmerized the guards at the Gates of Justice into opening them for Teach's ships. He darts about with Soru-like quickness, weathers shockwaves from Whitebeard and Sengoku alike, and can sprout bird-like wings from his arms via an unnamed Devil Fruit. A cane and a pistol are his tools, the gun figuring in Whitebeard's killing, and he doubles as the crew's navigator and unofficial chief of staff.

Formerly a West Blue policeman infamous for ceaseless cruelty, Laffitte was expelled from that sea and taken on by Blackbeard as navigator, sharing in the raid on Drum Island. He presented himself before the World Government at Mary Geoise to put Teach forward as Crocodile's replacement among the Warlords, then later helped breach Impel Down and pulled its defenses apart through hypnosis. At Marineford he joined his crew in slaying Whitebeard and shielded Teach during the Gura Gura no Mi display before the group withdrew rather than clash with Shanks. Across the timeskip the crew seized Whitebeard's former domain, and Laffitte rose to Titanic Captain with his Demon Sheriff nickname. He shared in the assault on Baltigo, aided in bringing Kuzan aboard, and in the Final Saga kept watch from Umit Shipping over the Revolutionary Army's meddling with shipments destined for Mary Geoise.
