Green Ghost II

Out of costume, Alana is a Black woman with chin-length dreadlocks and brown eyes, usually dressed in a blue top, plain pink slacks, light pink sneakers, and yellow-framed glasses. When she shifts into her heroic state she keeps the same figure but goes entirely green and barefoot, her features blurring past the point where anyone could identify her. Like the rest of the Guardians, she carries a wristband that alerts her when the team is needed, though she wears it only while in her civilian guise.

Alana shares the selfless, caring, and courageous streak that runs through the Guardians. She throws herself in front of danger without hesitation, phasing children to safety during the chaos at the White House and rushing to shield bystanders from collapsing rubble. A calm, steady presence, she often serves as a stabilizing force within the group. Her home life is more complicated: she and her husband Theo quarreled over whether their relationship should be public, yet the two plainly still loved each other, and her death would devastate him. That same deep empathy proved her undoing. Horrified by what Omni-Man did to Red Rush, she solidified to catch Darkwing's thrown corpse, and the moment of distraction gave Omni-Man his opening to kill her.

Alana is not the original Green Ghost; the name first belonged to an unidentified man. Before the events of the show she received a green amulet from that predecessor, which grants his powers when held in her mouth, and stepped into his place among the Guardians of the Globe. She also married Theo and trusted him with her secret identity.

Answering an emergency alongside the team, she helped defend the White House and the President against the Mauler Twins. When an explosion sent rubble raining down on bystanders, she rendered the nearby children intangible and steered them clear, Red Rush carrying them off while urging her to protect the President, which she did. She then rejoined the fight, driving the Mauler Twins down into the pavement and pinning them for her teammates to finish, after which the Global Defense Agency jailed the pair. Later, working a photo shoot as Alana, her wristband went off; she cut the session short, swallowed the amulet, and flew straight for the Guardians headquarters.

That summons turned out to be a trap. Omni-Man himself had triggered the alert to lure every Guardian into one room, and he opened with an attack on the Immortal that Red Rush barely deflected. The stunned team fought back, but Omni-Man crushed Red Rush's skull as the others looked on in horror. In the brutal melee that followed, Martian Man, War Woman, and the Immortal were all injured, and Darkwing was beaten to death and hurled toward Green Ghost. She turned tangible to catch his body, and in that frozen instant Omni-Man drove his hand clean through her head, killing her at once and shattering the small jade stone that was the source of her power.

When the Global Defense Agency reached the aftermath, medics found her body beside Darkwing's, her face destroyed. Her name was spoken during the Guardians' memorial, and Damien Darkblood, touching the shattered remains of her stone, glimpsed visions of her death without at first knowing the killer. Because that unique stone was destroyed for good, no replacement Green Ghost ever emerged. Theo would later confide in Debbie how deeply the loss had marked him, revealing his wife's secret identity in the process.
