Appearance

James has a slim, athletic frame with unusually long arms and legs that lend him a tall, slightly elongated look. He is toned rather than bulky, yet clearly capable in a fight. Once he taps into his abilities, his whole body turns into glowing molten rock streaked with cracks and radiating heat, and in this state he can reshape himself at will. His costume is plain and practical, a snug white-and-orange bodysuit with the orange cutting down the torso in a sharp point, grey trim along the arms and legs, and no footwear, leaving him barefoot.

Personality

At his core, Magmaniac is shaped by hardship rather than malice. Poverty, not greed or cruelty, drove him into crime, and he shares his life and his struggles with Tether Tyrant. The two even try to go straight and hold down honest jobs before circumstances force them back toward villainy. Everything he does traces back to a simple need for money.

History

Isotope calls Magmaniac in to fight on Machine Head's behalf. He clashes with Invincible and uses his molten powers to melt away Titan's rock hide, only for an enraged Invincible to tear him apart with a single punch. When the Teen Team shows up, he keeps battling, trying to scorch Monster Girl's beast form while Rex Splode strikes at him, and he guards Machine Head from Black Samson. Seemingly immune to Rex's explosive attacks, he continues fighting the Guardians of the Globe until Shrinking Rae, having slipped inside him, grows and bursts him apart.

He later resurfaces robbing a bank alongside Tether Tyrant, though Invincible leaves the matter to the Global Defense Agency. A second heist ends with the pair fleeing empty-handed when Bulletproof arrives, hiding in a trash can to escape. Weary of the villain life and crushed by rising rent, they seek legitimate work at a fast-food restaurant. When orders pile up and the manager yells, Magmaniac tries to hurry the cooking with his heat and instead burns the patties, and after Tether Tyrant defends him both are fired. Out of options and buried in bills, they attempt one final robbery, only for Invincible and Kid Omni-Man to defeat them and send them to prison.
