Usagi's Awakening: A Message from the Distant Past

A strike from Kunzite hurls the guardians out of the passage beneath the Game Center Crown and drops them onto the wrecked Moon Kingdom, where a glowing figure of Queen Serenity greets Sailor Moon. Calling herself the earthly form of the goddess Selene and mother to the moon princess, she conjures a vision that rebuilds Silver Millennium in its prime and replays how it fell. The pageantry, the secret courtship of the princess and Prince Endymion, and the invasion driven by Beryl and Metalia all unspool for the stunned senshi to witness.

Luna rouses Usagi from another Tuxedo Mask dream with word that the enemy's entrance has been located. Below the arcade the group descends until Kunzite bars the route, demands the Silver Crystal, and opens a vortex to fling everyone into a chaos dimension. Sailor Moon loses her grip on the Moon Stick, which rebuffs Kunzite's grab and steers the falling girls safely to the lunar ruins. In the replayed past, Metalia's assault kills the four warriors, Beryl slays the princess and her prince, and a grieving Queen Serenity spends the last of her strength sealing the invaders with Moon Healing Escalation, then wishes every fallen soul reborn on Earth in a gentler age.

With their memories now whole, the senshi return to the tunnel and find Kunzite menacing Luna and Artemis. He hurls energy blades that cut through Sailor Moon's protectors, and when he refuses her cleansing light, she deflects his own weapon back into him, impaling him. He dies calling out for Zoisite, and the group resolves to storm the stronghold at once.

Kae Araki takes over the voice of Usagi and Sailor Moon here, a role she keeps through the fiftieth entry of the R season. The chapter marks the last outing for the Shitennou and mirrors the tenth act of the manga. It carries the final stock-footage use of Moon Healing Escalation, though the technique itself returns for the season closer. A movement from Vivaldi's Summer concerto scores the moment Endymion shields the princess from Beryl. The DiC edit trims the overhead shot of Queen Serenity's corpse, the French version drops her cleansing of the enemy entirely, and the Hungarian broadcast skipped the episode outright.
