Summary

Arriving for the interview among a crowd of applicants, Loid senses hidden eyes on his family and realizes Eden's faculty are already scoring candidates at the front gate. Housemaster Henry Henderson, contemptuous of the unrefined masses, is startled when the Forgers salute the founder's statue, though Anya's dismal test scores and the discovery that Loid has married twice keep the staff wary. Passing the first screening, the family is directed toward Assembly Hall A while Loid discreetly warns Yor and Anya that the observation continues.

Along the way they encounter a heavyset student wailing for rescue from a gutter, and Loid instantly reads the scene as a staged trial. While other applicants shrink back from the filthy water, the Forgers haul the boy out, Loid soaking himself in the process. Henderson moves to eject them over their ruined clothes until Loid produces a complete change of outfits and offers the boy a gracious excuse to spare his feelings, leaving the housemaster moved despite his resolve to unmask Loid as a commoner.

Chaos then erupts when animals break free of the school farm and stampede across the grounds. The visible confusion among the faculty tells Loid this one is no test. He snatches a fallen child out of the path of a charging cow, losing part of his suit to its horns, while Yor drops the herd's leader by striking its pressure points, and Anya, sensing the animal's terror through her telepathy, gently soothes it until it rises and guides the other beasts home. A moved Henderson hurries out to thank the family, telling them to freshen up and return since their conduct has proven them worthy of consideration. Loid answers by revealing yet another spare set of clothes, stunning him once more.

Notes

Mission 4 occupies 25 pages of Volume 1 within the Admissions Interview Arc, adapts into Episode 4, and marks Henry Henderson's first physical appearance, though his name goes unstated. Sharon can be spotted among the applicants on the chapter cover.

Between the digital release and the Volume 1 printing, Endo repositioned thought dialogue on several pages, including a panel where Loid's inner monologue originally hid a teacher's radio from view.
