Akari Nitta

Of middling height and slim, Akari has fair skin, eyes of a soft blue, and brows that taper into pale triangles. Her hair, a yellow shade messily cut to about neck length, splits into uneven bangs, and dark roots run along the crown where the strands brush toward her left. By the Shibuya Incident she has tamed that look, evening out the ragged ends so only a stray wisp or two remains, and added an earring in blue whose larger of two rings is threaded by three little rods.

Her managerial garb is crisp. The centerpiece is a vest, sleeved and colored deep black, closed by a trio of buttons with two pockets set low at its sides. A white long-sleeved shirt and a red tie sit beneath it, and she rounds the outfit out with grey-black slacks and heels, which the anime renders in brown.

Kind and attentive at heart, Akari shifts into a serious, businesslike mode the moment work starts, though her patience can run out, as the first-years learned when their unanswered phones soured her temper. Concern for others stays a constant; investigating the Yasohachi Bridge curse, she spun a quick fib so a frightened civilian would not catch on to what was really being discussed, and even badly hurt, her first question after Nanami carried her to safety was whether Ijichi still lived.

She reads danger shrewdly and refuses to risk lives carelessly. She objected when Maki and Nobara made to break a veil too quickly, urged Nobara not to push past her limits while Haruta stalked her, and after Shigemo kicked her sternum and stabbed her several times, she hauled herself toward an escalator as a fading Nobara stalled the attacker. That decision was the correct one, since remaining where she lay would have handed Haruta a hostage by the time Nanami showed up.

Akari is a support-type sorcerer rather than a combatant, having signed on at Kyoto Jujutsu High with the express aim of training to be an assistant manager. Her sorcerer ability barely registers; perceiving cursed spirits comes to her only faintly, and any fighting instruction she got seems slight. One blow from Haruta Shigemo did considerable damage, pinning her motionless for several minutes until she slipped away. Her true worth rests in coordination, fast judgment, and managing the practical machinery of an operation.
