Appearance

In his final stretch of life Wasuke is an elderly, bedridden figure, his face deeply lined, his cropped hair gone white and his eyes a pale green. Much of his bone structure carries over to Yuji, who clearly resembles him. During his hospital stay he is dressed in a light blue patient's gown.

Personality

At heart Wasuke is generous and protective, the man who instilled in Yuji the habit of looking out for others. That softer nature sits behind a famously prickly exterior, however. He could turn stubborn and quick-tempered, even snapping at Yuji for the simple kindness of daily visits and gifts of flowers. His rough edges drove most people away, which is exactly why he warned his grandson to surround himself with companions rather than face the end in solitude. For all the gruffness, his devotion to Yuji ran deep.

History

In March 2003, Wasuke was at a Sendai hospital alongside his son Jin, who cradled the newborn Yuji. Distrustful of the baby's mother, Kaori, he urged Jin to cut ties with her, only for the conversation to break off when she walked in. He went on to raise Yuji through most of the boy's childhood, relocating to a small town for work before returning to Sendai once the child was around six or seven. A friend from that town later died, and the two attended the funeral together.

Diagnosed with lung cancer, Wasuke turned down early treatment rather than endure its severe side effects, which led doctors to raise the possibility of euthanasia. In June 2018, during a visit in his last hours, he started to reveal something about Yuji's parents, but the boy cut him off and told him to stop posturing. Before he died, he called Yuji a strong kid, asked him to help people whenever he could, and pressed him not to repeat his own mistake of dying without anyone near. His remains were later cremated, and Yuji gathered the ashes into an urn. As an ordinary man he had no jujutsu ability, though he did pass along some basic martial arts. It is later revealed that he is the reincarnation of the twin Sukuna devoured in the womb.
