The forty-second episode delivers a wrenching loss as Nanami makes his final stand, then thrusts Yuji into a rematch with Mahito who weaponizes innocent lives. Meanwhile, a second Mahito stalks Nobara through the alleys.
Half his body scorched by Jogo's flames, an exhausted Nanami trudges through Shibuya Station, drifting into daydreams of a quiet life on a Malaysian beach. He passes a photo booth without realizing Mahito hides inside it. Confronted by a swarm of transfigured humans, Nanami fights on out of duty, cutting the entire horde down alone before sensing Mahito's hand on his back. Drawn by the noise, Yuji arrives just as Nanami, conversing with a vision of the late Haibara, turns to smile at his protege and silently entrusts him with exorcising Mahito. Mahito then explodes the upper half of Nanami's body, killing him before Yuji's eyes.
Enraged, Yuji charges. Mahito blocks his path with a transfigured wall that begs for help, then launches Body Repel, a long transfigured monster that fills the corridor. The two trade blows in cramped quarters, Mahito mocking Yuji with Junpei's face and insisting they are the same. Remembering Nanami's words, Yuji stays calm and lands a Manji Kick that staggers the curse. As the monster squeezes them together, their brutal exchange tears through the station.
The fight spills into the ticket gates, where Mahito fires transfigured humans like bullets, stretches limbs into clubs and serrated blades, and chases Yuji into an elevator. Yuji counters a giant fist punching through the ceiling, snapping the cables and sending the car plummeting as Mahito leaps in to continue. Mahito morphs his body to dodge, even turning his lips into a blade, while Yuji escapes up the shaft and back to the original floor. Yuji notes Mahito has gained new tricks, and Mahito decides to rely on transfigured humans since Yuji's raw strength could kill him.
Turning a corner, Yuji finds two civilians and tells them to hide, but Mahito's arm bursts from one of their mouths to sucker-punch him, then climbs out of the man and turns the other into a sword. Mahito vows to break Yuji's spirit by killing innocents. A flashback reveals that nearly two hours earlier, Mahito split into two selves to win the hunt for Yuji. His other body has cornered Nobara in Dogenzaka Alley, where she taps into the core of cursed energy chasing Black Flash and lands clever Hairpin explosions. Mahito plans to kill her, bring her corpse to Yuji, and destroy his soul.
The episode adapts chapters covering Nanami's death and the Mahito rematch. Nanami's mention of dreaming of Kuantan, on Malaysia's east coast, stirred Malaysian fans, with reports of a fan memorial on Google Maps and the Pahang state government considering tourism promotion tied to the series. The anime extends and reorders much of the Mahito versus Yuji fight, including the wall transfiguration, Body Repel squeezing them together, and the single-bullet shooting sequence.

The transformation everyone knows, the follow-up question nobody would touch. Why we made a smooth R&B track about the golden glow Dragon Ball never talks about....

Five Bleach female characters, ranked and settled. Yoruichi sits at number five, the spot nobody expects, and our number one is an Arrancar with a soft heart....
