Key Events

A hardened Blood Meteorite bores straight through Yuji's liver, blindsiding him because he assumed Mechamaru's water trick had emptied Choso of projectiles. Sensing an internal organ has been pierced, Yuji briefly entertains the idea of losing and dying, then stamps the floor, steadies himself, channels his dread into cursed energy, and empties his mind of distraction. He recommits to his purpose, helping rescue Gojo even should it cost his life, and braces to die if that is what felling Choso requires. On the other side, Choso is taken aback that a mere three telling hits from Yuji have left him moderately hurt, and he knows a repeat Blood Meteorite ambush will fail.

Because Blood Manipulation is rarely used to solidify blood, Choso improvises by hardening his whole fist and a good stretch of forearm, courting spontaneous thrombosis but rating Yuji the bigger danger. They exchange strikes, and Yuji reads his rival up close, evading first a straight punch, then a low sweeping kick, before he slips behind a restroom door and bolts the lock. Choso is baffled until Yuji bursts back out and lands a dropkick squarely across his face. The hardened hand barely blocks it, so Yuji coils his legs around Choso's head for a flying scissor takedown, then closes in and flicks out his right hand.

Notes

Convinced Choso believes his left arm is dead weight after the opening Piercing Blood, Yuji uses the right-hand flash as a feint to drive a hard left into the body. Something feels off, though, and Choso retaliates: a brutal hammer-fist drops onto Yuji's shoulder and snaps the collarbone, caving in the joint and leaving him wide open. The Death Painting closes the duel with a crushing strike to the gut that flings Yuji across the room into the wall, then lifts his robe to reveal he had reinforced the exact spot Yuji aimed at. Slipping unconscious yet faintly breathing, Yuji is about to be finished when something stays Choso's hand, and a memory of an event that never took place is born inside his head. The chapter belongs to the Shibuya Incident Arc and was adapted as Episode 37.
