Bound and blindfolded, Yuji faces interrogation from Satoru Gojo, who has set a secret execution in motion. Proving he can command Sukuna's power, Yuji is offered a grim reprieve: devour every one of the curse's scattered fingers first.
Yuji is hauled in and questioned by Satoru Gojo. After Yuji demonstrates control over Sukuna's power and Megumi argues against his death before the school's higher-ups, Satoru presents an alternative to immediate execution: track down all of Sukuna's appendages and consume every last one.
Yuji comes to inside a chamber sealed by dozens of talismans, strapped to a chair and facing a blindfolded man who turns out to be Satoru Gojo, instructor of the first-years at Jujutsu High. Confused and worried for his friends, Yuji is told to think only of himself, then learns a secret execution has already been arranged for him.
The events leading here are recounted: Megumi had pleaded Yuji's case when his teacher arrived, sent by the higher-ups to follow up and discovering Yuji had eaten the cursed object. To prove the curse could be contained, Satoru had Yuji surrender to Sukuna's consciousness for ten seconds, during which Sukuna clashed with the strongest sorcerer before Yuji reclaimed his body and passed. Satoru knocked him out, and Megumi argued for his life against jujutsu regulations. In the present, Satoru reveals the higher-ups have agreed to delay the sentence rather than carry it out at once.
Jujutsu High holds six of Sukuna's fingers, which cannot be destroyed or sealed but can be devoured by Yuji as a vessel; the higher-ups want him executed only after he consumes the rest. Yuji then visits Sasaki and Iguchi at the hospital, easing Sasaki's guilt by blaming the curses and promising a sorcerer will heal Iguchi. Resolved to fight the curses that ruin lives, he eats another finger, prompting Satoru to confirm he is a rare kind of person who emerges roughly once a millennium. Choosing to die surrounded by others as his grandfather asked, Yuji agrees to consume the remaining fingers, and the three set off for Tokyo Jujutsu High.
