Even Gojo confesses Black Flash cannot be summoned on demand, calling it a roll of the dice. While Sukuna chains it to heal, the sorcerers race to stop him, and a redirection technique from Larue opens the door to Yuji's awakening.
What sets off a Black Flash is something not even Gojo can fully control. Before the King of Curses can rebuild his reverse cursed technique, the sorcerers rush to finish him, with Yuji at the front showing that hope itself can glow black.
A past interview has Gojo confessing that the Six Eyes still do not let him fire Black Flash whenever he wishes. So many factors feed the spatial warp it needs, the flow of cursed energy, who the foe is, the user's body and mind, and even heat and moisture in the air, that he calls success mostly a gamble. Nanami once strung together a longer streak, yet Gojo's lifetime total ran higher, and he never pictured Yuji eventually toppling that mark.
Back in the now, the second Black Flash driven into Larue puts the four surviving sorcerers on alert. Choso and Yuji grasp that chaining the phenomenon could rebuild Sukuna's output the same way it once did Gojo's, so they keep swinging, though none of it lands. Maki enters and trades blows with Sukuna in the air, both treading on nothing for footing. Sukuna slips fully into the zone, and Maki takes the brunt of his third Black Flash; the impact hurls her out through a window, after which he chases with Dismantle slashes turned up in power. Choso replies with Supernova, blasting blood orbs into a screen of debris, but Sukuna materializes at his back, slams him into a wall, and tags him with a fourth Black Flash. A punch from Yuji knocks Sukuna off, giving Choso the chance to hand over a compressed blood orb.
Some distance away, Miguel readies a retreat with Larue, who will not go, certain he can still be useful. Yuji and Sukuna stay locked in close quarters until Yuji brings his palms together and aims them at Sukuna's face; reading the pose, Sukuna barely slips the Piercing Blood, which only clips his chin. A slash opens the shoulder of Yuji, and the pair break away from each other. As Yuji loads a punch Sukuna feels will carry a Black Flash, his focus is wrenched aside by Larue's Cutie Honey, a technique that seizes and steers where a target looks. Caught distracted and open, Sukuna eats a decisive Black Flash, black lightning bursting from Yuji's fist as his buried potential floods out and his awakening begins.
Featured in Volume 29, the installment ran in issue 19 of 2024. It expands the lore of Black Flash as a luck-driven event and brings in Larue's Cutie Honey as the trigger that lets Yuji awaken. Nanami and Mahito appear only by mention.
