Appearance

Red is Sengoku's signature, from the smooth hair swept to the right and hiding both ears to his matching red eyes. Slender and pale, he is handsome enough to have a following among the school's girls.

He almost never appears without a sweater layered over his uniform, sometimes swapping it for the blazer, and he piles on clothing to disguise how thin he is. That, together with an unusually high voice, lends him a faintly feminine air.

Personality

For all his presidential authority, Sengoku is a jittery boy who flusters at the smallest thing and shrinks from horror and insects alike. He is sharp academically, usually topping the school's grade rankings and placing second in physical education, and he reads with such total absorption that the world around him vanishes.

Emotionally he gives little away, save for the irritation his council duties constantly provoke; he scolds rule-breakers without actually enjoying it. His thin build is a sore point he hides under layers and covers with elaborate excuses rather than expose. He turns noticeably prickly inside Hori's group, above all when sparring with Tōru Ishikawa, yet softens around Remi Ayasaki, Sakura Kōno, and animals. Despite that straight-laced streak, he cannot resist joining the boys' rivalries.

History

A childhood friend of Kyōko Hori, Sengoku leads the student council and dates, then marries, Remi Ayasaki, with whom he later has a daughter, Shizuru; their shared love of reading is what first drew them together.

His fear of bugs is genuine, he doles out fond pet names to animals such as calling dogs Mr. Doggy, and he avoids swimming out of embarrassment over his slim body. More often than not, when the boys land in trouble, he is the one who ends up as the joke.
