Summary

At the villains' hideout, Dabi wonders aloud whether it would hurt their plans if All For One's so-called friends were captured. The answer is no. Success would please him and failure would sting only briefly before he moved to the next scheme, because the people serving him are tools he expects to throw away once he has wrung the most amusement out of them.

In the U.A. forest, Yuga Aoyama's parents try to flee with their son while Izuku Midoriya and Toru Hagakure give chase. Yuga's memory fills in the gaps. Two wealthy families produced a child raised in comfort, and once they understood he was different they worried harder about his happiness than he ever did, until word reached them of a man who could hand out Quirks. The power never suited his body and he suffered for it, yet his parents loved him through their own guilt, which is precisely what made him want to become a hero and repay them. Then U.A. accepted him, All Might joined the faculty, and the orders started arriving: report when the class was cut off, report where the camp was, and now separate Izuku from the group.

Reading Izuku's letter and discovering that he too had entered the world Quirkless, Yuga says, dropped him into total despair. Danger Sense fires as Yuga lines up a Navel Laser, but Toru cuts in and deflects the beam with Warp Refraction. She rounds on him, saying everyone could have died and the whole country is wrecked, her face flickering into view as she cries and asks what was going through his mind while he lived alongside them. The parents attempt a defence. Izuku binds all three with Blackwhip and, in tears himself, tells Yuga it ends now.

The Aoyamas are questioned in U.A.'s A.V. Room, where the staff, All Might and Detective Naomasa Tsukauchi learn that the Quirk was granted roughly a decade ago and that Yuga carries no explosive rigging of the sort found in Lady Nagant. Nezu asks the students out and Class 1-A flatly refuses. Mashirao Ojiro asks what the plan had been if Toru had never caught him, Eijiro Kirishima begs him to say it is a lie, and Katsuki Bakugo remarks on the coincidence of yet another classmate starting out Quirkless.

Pressed on what they know, the father insists they know nothing beyond the orders, that failure or deceit meant death, and that they were once shown the corpse of somebody who went to the police. He pleads that the guilt is theirs alone and that Yuga understood nothing. Yuga collapses inward, dwelling on all the lives he endangered and on the nerve of smiling beside people he called friends, and on how watching Izuku, another former Quirkless boy, throw himself at All For One only proved what a wretch he is.

Izuku pushes back. Why save Katsuki and Fumikage Tokoyami at the camp, and what about the cheese message, which he now reads as a plea for rescue and the reason for the tears. He points to another hero All For One manipulated whose spirit bent but whose soul survived, and argues that one wrong turn does not sentence a person to villainy forever. Katsuki catches on to where this is going as Izuku holds out a hand and tells Yuga that heroism remains open to him.

Key Events

The Aoyama backstory is filled in. Both parents came from money, chased a rumour about a man who could grant Quirks, and reached All For One. Yuga has carried his incompatible Quirk for roughly ten years. His enrolment at U.A. was itself an instruction, issued once All For One learned All Might would be teaching there, and he has since been given three commands: flag the isolated class, hand over the camp location, and separate Izuku from the group. All For One privately views the family, along with nearly everyone else serving him, as disposable.

Blackwhip pins all three Aoyamas in place before their escape can succeed, and Toru's face becomes briefly visible during the confrontation. The truth reaches Class 1-A, the school's staff and the police alike. Izuku then extends his hand, insisting Yuga never harboured villainous intent and could yet become a hero.

Notes

The spot where Yuga hid throughout the U.S.J. attack is shown for the first time, paired with a flashback to the training camp. Katsuki, like Yuga himself, notices how closely their Quirkless origins line up with Izuku's.

The clash between Deku, Invisible Girl and Can't Stop Twinkling begins and ends inside this chapter. Cover art features Izuku, Toru and Yuga. Seventeen pages, Volume 34, adapted as part of Episode 141.
