Chapter 385

The Gunga battle grinds on. Yu Takeyama destroys yet another oversized weapon and calls to Yui Kodai, who sends up the last of the Detnerat gear. Keigo Takami apologizes to Fumikage Tokoyami for being nothing more than a wingman, and his student answers that such support is precisely what fuels Light of Baldur, while everyone else keeps hurling themselves at the villain.

All For One finds his opening. One blast opens Mt. Lady's stomach and drops her; a torrent of lightning follows that annihilates Gigantomachia's body and leaves the giant dead on the ground. Regenerating from the wreck of himself, he muses that something dark is rising in him, perhaps bleeding over from his "other self", and that the younger he grows the less it can be reined in. Another blast obliterates Dark Shadow and guts both Hawks and Tsukuyomi, and he explains that surrendering to that darkness is what lets him draw out his Quirk's true potential.

When the dust clears the heroes are broken and barely alive. All For One lifts a half conscious Hawks by the throat and tells him to move aside so he can take Tsukuyomi's Quirk. Hawks resists to no effect and loses Fierce Wings, the villain remarking that the man fought well despite how badly damaged that Quirk Factor is. Hawks remarks that stockpiled Quirks function outside the body and sit poorly with an ongoing Rewind, and that the damage is only speeding the process along.

Minoru Mineta lobs one of his Pop Off spheres and weakly begs him not to take Dark Shadow, since it would only make him an edgelord, offering his own Quirk instead. Reading the boy's expression, musing on how the weak howl, and unwilling to burn another second, All For One departs. Rising into the sky, he tells the wrecked heroes that the press showed up in time for the world to watch them fail again, having protected nothing at all, and blasts away. Hawks holds onto one thread of hope: the Shiketsu students mentioned refugees at U.A.

In the underground evacuation system below the school, the moving segments halt and the lights die, unnerving the civilians inside, who have just watched the heroes lose on the live feed. The Counter-Force Headquarters tracks All For One heading east, and Naomasa Tsukauchi reaches Manami Aiba, who reports the evacuation system restored, most blocks moving, and a few stopped from the inside by someone interfering.

The culprit turns out to be a subordinate of the villain, still jamming the system because he lost contact with Tomoyasu Chikazoku, has no orders, and fears having nothing to show once his boss rules the world. Gunhead finds him and gives chase. Elsewhere the blocks begin breaking apart, and Itsuka Kendo and Tetsutetsu Tetsutetsu move to keep the civilians from being crushed. Death Arms appears and catches falling debris, saying he knows this will keep happening, but thinking about Izuku Midoriya, his body simply moved by itself. Over in Kamino, Shoto Todoroki, propped up by Tenya Ida, insists this is not finished, while Chizome Akaguro watches the two of them from nearby.

All For One overcomes Gigantomachia and the heroes alike, leaving the beast dead, and observes that the darkness growing inside him strengthens as his body grows younger.

He steals Hawks' Fierce Wings, which remains as weak as before thanks to its damaged Quirk Factor. He moves to take Dark Shadow as well, but Grape Juice's pleading changes his mind and he departs.

Spies working for the villain disrupt one of the evacuation facilities under U.A., and Gunhead runs down the man responsible.

Death Arms steps out of retirement to guard the refugees against falling debris, spurred by what Deku has done. Stain turns out to be in Kamino as well, watching Shoto and Ingenium.

The chapter runs seventeen pages and was published on April 17, 2023, in issue 20 of 2023. It sits in Volume 38 and the Final War arc, between Chapter 384 and Chapter 386, and carries both a title page and a sketch. All For One, Gigantomachia, Mt. Lady, Tomura Shigaraki, Gale Force, Tsukuyomi, and Hawks appear on the cover. The anime divides it between Episode 156 for pages one through eleven and Episode 157 for pages twelve through seventeen.

Death Arms catching rubble to spare bystanders pays homage to an anime original scene in Episode 1. The glider Stain uses resembles the one associated with the Marvel Comics villain Green Goblin, particularly the version from the 2021 film Spider-Man: No Way Home. Horikoshi's author comment expresses surprise at the assumption that every manga artist and aspiring artist has read Akira and Berserk.
