Chapter 53: Limits and Catastrophe

Mirko, Ryukyu and Snipe put down the Bomber that severed the venue's communications. Gang Orca reads that as a break in the siege until Makoto Tsukauchi corrects him: the phones and the landlines inside are still dead. Relief comes from another direction. Ingenium reports that a Team Idaten comm link has reached them, patching the dome through to his own control room. Tensei sends his sidekicks out across every front, hands coordination to Gang Orca and Makoto, and takes the field himself.

Edgeshot briefs him outside, then turns Foldabody on the creature that had spent the arc pounding Captain Celebrity, running it clean through. Best Jeanist follows with Fiber Master, snaring the thing and leaving it strung up in the air. He then asks Ingenium whether his own request arrived, and it has: a truck loaded with carbon fiber cable of the sort used on suspension bridges. Down at ground level, he weaves it into the failing structure and takes the Tokyo Sky Egg's weight off the one man holding it.

Koichi Haimawari lets himself believe it is over. Captain Celebrity, spent, asks him for a favor instead, a message carried to his wife and son telling them their husband and father is a great hero. When Edgeshot arrives and asks after them, Koichi says they are fine and wonders aloud why the Captain will not deliver that line himself. He turns. The Captain is not there.

Christopher is already falling, hundreds of meters of open air beneath him, asking himself whether he finally managed something Pamela could be proud of. The thought dies when he spots Koichi dropping alongside him. The vigilante had jumped without deciding to. Told to fly, Christopher has nothing left to fly with, so he pulls Koichi in, forces out one last barrier from his Quirk, wraps the boy in it, and prays. Heroes scramble below to catch them both.

The Scarred Man, watching his creatures repelled and his target secured, does not take the loss. He commits to one final stroke aimed at the highest possible body count. The Bomber hanging in Best Jeanist's threads pops off a string of small blasts to work itself loose, and the smoke robs Shota Aizawa of the sightline Erasure needs. Free, it fastens onto the support tower, and the Scarred Man triggers its self-destruction. The blast is enormous, and the Tokyo Sky Egg drops.

Team Idaten's comm link restores contact for the trapped heroes, and Ingenium deploys his sidekicks across the operation.

Edgeshot and Best Jeanist neutralize the Bomber tormenting Captain Celebrity, and Best Jeanist braces the tower with carbon fiber suspension cable.

Captain Celebrity gives out and falls, and Koichi instinctively jumps after him, forcing the exhausted hero to spend his last strength shielding the vigilante.

The Scarred Man detonates a Bomber against the support tower and the Tokyo Sky Egg starts to collapse.

The magazine title was simply Limits (限界, Genkai) before the volume edition lengthened it.
