Appearance

A tall man, Ishidate tucks his short, light-brown hair beneath a spiky orange wig and looks out through blue eyes, a beauty mark resting under the right one. No village crest marks his forehead protector. A white vest sits over his blue shirt and trousers, while the petrification gauntlet, its back set with a single eye, is fitted to his right hand.

Personality

From the instant he appears, Ishidate reads as haughty and self-absorbed, so certain of his own strength that he rated himself above even an elite Konoha shinobi such as Kakashi. Real shrewdness underlay that vanity: he recognized Kakashi's strike at the main gate for the feint it was and sent his men to track down the rest of the squad. His pride grew from a superiority complex that broke apart the moment Naruto bested him, whereupon he lost every shred of composure and turned unhinged, obsessed with slaying Naruto to reassert himself, and he showed no remorse even after that fixation drove him to kill his own paymaster.

History

Cast out of his homeland and scraping by through hard times, Ishidate took a contract from Shabadaba, a minister of the Land of the Moon, to assassinate Michiru Tsuki together with Hikaru, his son, all part of a scheme to unseat the reigning king, Kakeru, whom he mortally wounded using his gauntlet. That device let him command stone and petrify whatever living thing his hand met, an outcome undone only by prompt treatment and one leaving its victims fragile, and it could also lift rock and reforge it into hurtling shards. During combat he and his squad leaned on close taijutsu supported by a scentless gas that blunted a foe's senses.

Relying on the gas, he outfoxed Kakashi and petrified his arm, and he carved apart Korega too, before falling back once Naruto tapped the Nine-Tailed Fox's power. Later tasked with halting Naruto's party within the palace, he moved to kill Hikaru, swept away a horde of shadow clones, and flung Naruto off the tower, only to be crushed and knocked senseless when Naruto swamped him with the Multiple Shadow Clone Technique. Yet living, he stiffened Naruto's leg into stone, then boiled over when ordered to kill Michiru first and accidentally petrified Shabadaba in his grasp. As he pelted Michiru with rock shards, Kiki and Chamū held him up long enough for Michiru and Hikaru to rush in bearing Naruto, whose Crescent Moon Rasengan hit him at point-blank range and tore him apart alongside Shabadaba.
