Ōnoki's Will

Kū basks in his newfound strength as the Leaf genin conclude he is far too dangerous to leave running loose. Traveling toward the Old City, Sekki needs to rest, but Ōnoki, spotting the damage done to the former Tsuchikage office and remembering Kozuchi, insists he cannot let the moment pass. Kū pins Mitsuki with stone pillars, arguing they should understand one another as fellow man-made beings, and knocks Boruto back with a blade. When Boruto insists Mitsuki never meant to truly join Kū's side, Kū counters that Mitsuki had chances to seek help in the Leaf yet chose to seek out others like himself, and Mitsuki's hesitation to deny it becomes his proof.

As Kū winds up a Dust Release, Mitsuki tears free with Sage Mode and goes on the attack, though the collapsing rubble seals Boruto and Sarada inside. Sekki clears the debris and reveals Ōnoki is with him, asking Boruto to lead them to Kū. In the Leaf, Shikamaru strains to secure permission to enter the Land of Earth, and Naruto notices Sai is on edge over Inojin being in danger. Wasabi overhears them and alerts Teams 15 and 5, who defy their orders to stay put and follow Naruto anyway, their resolve winning his quiet respect. Reaching the battle, Ōnoki asks Kū when he abandoned protecting the weak, and Kū replies that he is only a vessel for the hatred Ōnoki handed down to him.

Boruto and Sarada return Mitsuki's forehead protector, telling him they want to know his true self, and the genin band together against Kū's crushing boulders and Dust Release. Boruto lands a Rasengan on Kū's heart, and when the weakened Kū readies a massive final blast, Ōnoki overwhelms it with his own Dust Release, admitting he let his devotion to Kozuchi's will be twisted and destroying Kū along with much of the building. Ōnoki shares his last words with the group and passes away as Naruto, Kurotsuchi, and Akatsuchi arrive by sunset. Konohamaru embraces Mitsuki, who fears he will be turned away, only for Teams 5 and 15 to welcome him back. This Boruto episode caps Mitsuki's Disappearance arc and aired in Japan on January 27, 2019.
