One of the Haze brothers unleashes a suicidal jutsu to trap his pursuers, willing to sink into a devouring mire so his sibling can carry the stolen cell to safety. Boruto refuses to let him die alone, forcing a clash of assumptions about loyalty, hunger, and sacrifice.
The Leaf ninja press their chase forward, uneasy about how far the Haze operatives will go to finish their task, while Deepa likewise resumes his own hunt. Omoi collapses from exhaustion before he can rejoin his squad. Elsewhere, Asaka and Hiruga reflect on the siblings they lost and the debt they owe the Land of Haze for taking them in as orphaned children. When the Leaf ninja attack, they strike only clones, and a tar-like mire soon binds their feet and blocks their hand seals. Hiruga triggers a forbidden technique that drags everything within range into the sludge, while Asaka slips away carrying the Hashirama Cell.
Sarada notices that the nearer a target sits to Hiruga, the faster it sinks, and Mitsuki deduces the caster will drown alongside his victims. Hiruga insists the sacrifice saves the one brother he cares for, recalling how Yoruga gave his life so they could breach Fushu Castle, and he rebukes Boruto for never having known starvation while growing up safe in a mighty nation. Mugino concludes that killing the fastest-sinking Hiruga would collapse the technique, but the group realizes he is merely stalling so Asaka can cross the border. Boruto convinces him to check on his brother himself, so Hiruga releases the jutsu and races off with the Leaf ninja trailing. Omoi arrives to warn that Deepa has slain his subordinates and is set to intersect Asaka.

Naruto built the transformation jutsu himself, and the Hidden Leaf has been quietly not talking about it ever since. The story behind our 90s R&B record about the Naruko question everybody dodges....
