Hands

Boruto, Sarada, Mitsuki, and Katasuke reach the research institute, where they run into Sumire Kakei, an old classmate now working with the science team. Another member, Akita Inuzuka, arrives to take charge of the prosthetic hand and eagerly soaks up Katasuke's explanation of it. Boruto assumes the errand is finished, but his teammates remind him that they are also there to help test the gear, something he missed by storming out of the Hokage's office before the briefing ended.

The trials begin with Boruto and Mitsuki pitted against Sarada, who blinds and deafens them with a prototype flash-and-smoke bomb; even Mitsuki's heightened senses are no match for it. The group then moves through a chamber that swallows all sound and tries out gloves and boots that let them scale walls without burning chakra, freeing that energy for combat instead. Boruto hurts himself attempting to ride a kite, and Sumire patches him up with one of Katasuke's medical foams. Watching her admiration for the scientist and reading his credentials and his view of science as a form of support, Boruto starts to reconsider. He also notices that Akita's ninken, Chamaru, walks on a prosthetic leg, a project that first brought Akita into Katasuke's work.

Katasuke offers Boruto a prototype chakra katana, and the young ninja finally makes peace with the prosthetic hand his father once relied on. The mood shifts when Naruto calls to report that contact with Konohamaru and Mugino has been lost, suspending the current assignment and sending the nearest team to find them. Back in the village, Naruto, Shikamaru, and Sai suspect Kara's involvement and worry over how an airship slipped into Land of Fire skies unseen, reasoning that its hidden financier must be the true enemy. The chapter is part of the Boruto manga's Ao Arc and adapts to episode 183 of the anime.
