As his eye's pattern shines back from the moon and the great illusion begins, Tobi calls the fight over and frees the trapped Yamato, declaring he no longer has any use for him. The Allied Shinobi Forces steel themselves for another falling meteor, but Naruto knocks it aside once more. Sensing catastrophe, Sasuke dashes back toward his allies while Madara proclaims that all things will merge into one.

Light floods the field until night gleams like day, and shinobi, people, and animals across the globe slip under the genjutsu, the Rinnegan mirrored in their eyes. Only the resurrected Hokage stay clear-minded, helpless as Madara binds every living thing to the divine tree's life force. Naruto starts to rush to his comrades, but Sasuke halts him, explaining that his Susanoo alone had shielded them and that leaving it would doom them to the same fate.

Volume 70 holds this chapter within the Birth of the Ten-Tails' Jinchuriki arc, its title matching the genjutsu Mugen Tsukuyomi. Outside the Susanoo, Black Zetsu wonders whether Sasuke's Rinnegan can resist the technique, and in Konohagakure a bewildered Minato watches villagers swallowed by the tree. Fans have flagged two slips here: Hiruzen voices a codename he could not have known, and Minato's Truth-Seeking Balls jump from five to six between scenes. It appeared in the middle of 2014.
