Run-in

Boruto concludes that Kawaki has pushed past what Konoha will tolerate and confronts the shadow clone Kawaki left behind, which warns him to stay out of it. He alerts the sensor Nishi, who dismisses the claim since he still detects the clone's chakra. Meanwhile Ada guides Code toward an interception point, and Code muses over what he might even say to Kawaki. Boruto warns Naruto that Kawaki has fled and is masking his chakra to dodge the sensors, pressing the point until Naruto orders Nishi to widen his range and loop in Shikamaru. Kawaki's clone dissolves in frustration. The real Kawaki reaches Code, who tags him with a Claw Mark to erase the distance between them and quips about whether he has put on weight. Naruto grills Boruto on how he can still track Kawaki and admits his own doubts, given Boruto's earlier complaints about being watched. When Nishi reports that Kawaki's chakra has abruptly disappeared from within the house, Naruto relays to Shikamaru and Ino that the boy can no longer be sensed.

Unable to feel Kawaki any longer, Boruto insists on going after him. Naruto refuses, since Boruto is under the same watch, but Boruto counters that the Sensing Unit will never locate Kawaki, and soon he himself will not either. He slips away while Naruto is busy coordinating with Ino, leaving Amado and Shikamaru baffled as to how and why Kawaki left. Boruto heads for the spot where he last picked up Kawaki, betting they can trace his chakra to reach both of them. As Code and Kawaki trade blows with Ada urging restraint, Kawaki reveals he came on purpose, confirming that Code wants revenge on Isshiki's killers. He claims the blame for Isshiki's death and offers his own life if Code will leave Konoha untouched, insisting none of it would have unfolded had he not escaped Kara. Code rejects the offer as absurd and keeps attacking, incensed by the pleading, which he views as an insult to Isshiki's rightful vessel. Ada's cries for mercy stir Daemon awake. Code tells Kawaki he already knows every detail of Isshiki's fall and has taken up his will and designs, then reveals Kawaki is spared from his vengeance because someone wishes to meet him, and moves to leave with him in tow. Boruto arrives, kicking Code away to break Kawaki free, and tells him to give a heads-up next time so he does not get scolded.

Kawaki masks his chakra and slips his surveillance to meet Code. Boruto disobeys Naruto and pursues him. Code marks Kawaki and the two fight. Kawaki takes responsibility for Isshiki's death and offers his life if Code spares Konoha, but Code refuses, revealing he means to take Kawaki to someone who wants to meet him. Boruto arrives and frees Kawaki with a surprise kick.

This is chapter 62 of the Boruto manga, collected in volume 16 during the Code's Assault Arc. It stages the first direct meeting between Kawaki and Code and sets their conflict in motion.
