The Supporting Shadow…!!

Tento and Boruto celebrate that their bait-and-strike scheme against Shojoji landed, but the cheer dies when the bandit boss shakes off the hit and vows to make Boruto's death agonizing before devouring him. Seeing his foe badly hurt, Boruto winds up another Rasengan to end things, only for the seal in his right palm to flare and lock down his chakra, leaving him in pain. For a heartbeat Shojoji suspects Boruto belongs to a certain group, then dismisses the thought and readies another assault. He never reaches them: Mitsuki halts him mid-charge and Sarada finishes him with a kick.

Relieved yet fretting over the mission they walked away from, Boruto is told by his teammates that coffee and sandwiches will settle the debt, an expense Tento happily covers. Back in Konohagakure, Konohamaru praises the rescue of Tento while warning the squad to brace for consequences of abandoning their original assignment. When Tento reunites with Ikkyu, the boy announces he wants to grow into someone strong enough to be a true support.

Before the daimyo's party departs, Boruto returns the card Tento gave him and buys a fresh pack at the shop, still missing the one he wants, while Sarada pulls a super rare Orochimaru card, which leads the team to learn that Orochimaru is Mitsuki's father. Elsewhere, Ibiki and Sai prepare to question the captured Shojoji and bring in Sasuke Uchiha to crack the uncooperative prisoner. Terrified of the famed shinobi, Shojoji spills what he knows about the mark on Boruto's palm and the group chasing such seals, Kara, whose members gather at that very moment under their leader Jigen.

The chapter is part of the Mujina Bandits Arc and was collected in volume 4. When first printed, its cover mislabeled it as chapter 13 despite actually being the fifteenth. Sai is also drawn wearing a forehead protector by mistake throughout the chapter. It appeared in issue 38 of Weekly Shonen Jump for 2017, dated September 4, 2017.
