Agotogi headed the Agotogi Sand Merchants, a band of thugs in Arabasta. Roughly eleven years before Princess Vivi returned home, his gang attempted to abduct her for ransom.
A grin almost never left Agotogi's face until the moment he was beaten. Tan-skinned and of middling height, he sports spiky red hair, a hooked nose, thin eyebrows, and a chin that tapers to a point. He keeps an open green kimono speckled with a few purple dots, holds up his brown trousers with a yellow sash, and wears ordinary sandals on his feet.
Greed drives him, since the kidnapping was a scheme to turn Vivi into a payday. He pursued his target relentlessly right up to his downfall and showed no mercy, willing even to wound children to get what he wanted.
As a fighter Agotogi proved feeble, falling to Koza while the latter was still only a boy. His weapon was a large knife, which he used to leave a scar on that same opponent. When Vivi was traveling to a Sand-Sand Clan gathering, Agotogi and his men ambushed her in a kidnapping attempt. The clan fought back and Koza urged Vivi to flee, but the gang overpowered them, and she escaped toward nearby ruins. Agotogi chased her down, only for Koza to knock him from atop a crumbling wall with a club. Though Agotogi slashed the boy across the face, Koza struck back and laid him out cold. As two of his men moved to kill Koza, Cobra arrived and kicked them aside, while Pell and Chaka mopped up the remaining thugs.
