Giant Squad

Every member of the unit is a giant serving within the Marine military, and at minimum eight of them are accounted for. Two, Lacroix and Lonz, carry the rank of vice admiral. The identities and ranks of the others remain unrevealed, yet because each wears a Marine longcoat trimmed with epaulettes, all of them rank at least at ensign level. An unnamed female giant also fights among them in scenes added to the anime.

As disciplined Marine soldiers, the giants act on the commands handed down to them, taking their assignment to guard the execution stand and holding the line against Whitebeard's forces. Little is shown of them as individuals beyond this collective duty.

The squad came together twenty-four years before the present, formed by drawing more than a dozen giants from a number of different regions to brace the Marines for the wave of piracy that Roger's execution would spark. At Marineford it was posted to protect Ace's platform. When the clash with the Whitebeard Pirates erupted, Kizaru told the giants to watch for aerial assaults after Marco revealed his phoenix powers, and Jozu flung an enormous iceberg meant to wipe them out, though Akainu melted it first. Some tried to halt Oars Jr. when he charged, but he plowed through them and the Marine front line alike. Oars Jr. felled Lacroix, Whitebeard dropped Lonz with one shockwave-laden punch, and the member bearing a scar on his right chest and a backward cap was beaten by Luffy with the Gomu Gomu no Gigant Rifle. The fighting ended only when the Red Hair Pirates reached Marineford, and the squad stood down with the rest of the Marines at Sengoku's order. Lacroix and two unnamed members lived through it, gravely wounded and nursing one another's injuries.
