Islewan

Built like a giant, Islewan has a face strongly resembling a walrus, complete with jutting tusks and a heavy chin. Dark rings circle his eyes, and a scar sits beneath the right one. Long blond hair spills from under a metal helmet down the back of his neck. He dresses in a red and black captain's coat with gauntlet length gloves, and wears barrel shaped armor across his chest and shoulders, pierced with porthole like openings.

His devotion to the Whitebeard Pirates runs deep, enough that he sailed to Marineford to fight for Ace's life, showing no dread even toward Marine Vice Admirals. The bond clearly went both ways, since the deaths of Ace and Whitebeard left him in tears once Shanks brought the battle to a close.

Islewan rode with the Whitebeard Pirates from early in his career. Four years after Oden joined them, the crew reached an island stirred by a disturbance that unsettled even the wildlife, and there they traded blows with the Roger Pirates across three days and nights before the fight melted into an exchange of gifts. In time he made his own name in the New World and, with his crew, became one of Whitebeard's subordinate captains. He carries a katana into battle. When Ace faced execution at Marineford, Islewan threw his forces in beside the Whitebeard Pirates, charging the moment the Vice Admirals joined the fray and later steering his ship, alongside Amadob, to assault the Marine warships from the bay's port side. After the war he attended the funeral held for Ace and Whitebeard, though that appearance is shown only in the anime.
