Kalik Meidara captains the non-canon Kalik Pirates, a crew introduced in the Law-centered novel The Hour of Kikoku. A towering axe-swinging brute who built a fortune kidnapping people for the slave trade, he hunts Trafalgar Law hoping to seize the rookie's standing as the deadliest pirate in the North Blue.
A white beard and long, loose hair frame a body that dwarfs even the six-foot-three Law. Meidara carries enormous muscle on a hulking build and usually fights bare-chested, with only a covering at the groin. A horned helmet carved from animal bone sits atop his head, and one of his arms appears to be made of metal.
Driving Meidara is a hunger for renown paired with an inflated faith in his own power. He prizes his physical might so highly that he sets out to topple Law purely to inherit the younger captain's fearsome name, and that swagger tips into recklessness as he badly misjudges his limits. Compassion is foreign to him; he profits from seizing ordinary people and trafficking them as slaves without a second thought.

Long before the novel's events, Meidara and his crew made a trade of grabbing civilians and shuttling them island to island to be sold. Days ahead of the story they struck Welbems Island, dragging off a group of locals that included Hakugan. His fifty-million berry bounty marks him as no minor threat, and he swings a colossal axe with ease; Law reckoned a single blow could level several buildings.
When he chased the Heart Pirates, Meidara left his men to the rest of the crew and went straight for Law, only to have the surgeon slip past the blade and drop him with Injection Shot. His endurance proved monstrous, though, and he rose blood-soaked to attack again, even snapping Law's sword Kosho before a point-blank Counter Shock finally put him down for good.
