Kibagaeru once led the Fanged Toad Pirates until a defeat handed his crew and his rank to Foxy, whose ranks he then joined. Anime-only material widens his part, casting him as a chief troublemaker who briefly seizes the Foxy Pirates for himself.
Broad and heavyset, Kibagaeru wears a gray mustache and dresses in ornate buccaneer attire. An orange vest sits beneath a light-purple scarf tucked at his throat, worn under a coat in the blue of a ship's captain along with a tricorne hat. That hat first displayed the flag of his own crew, including its Jolly Roger.
Once he sided with the Foxy Pirates, the crest on the cap was struck through to signal his break from the old crew, and he took on the eye mask the others wear. A frequent cross of his eyes lends him the look of a frog.
Kibagaeru keeps to a buccaneer's honor code with some rigor, respecting the terms a Davy Back Fight imposes and crossing over to the victors once beaten, even when that meant forfeiting both his crew and his rank as captain. A meaner, self-interested side runs through him too, since he spared little thought for the men he deserted in trading up to a larger crew.
The anime pushes this further. There he tries to seize Foxy's place and drive him out together with Porche and Hamburg, the captain's earliest and most faithful hands.
As captain of the Fanged Toads, Kibagaeru accepted a Davy Back challenge from Foxy's crew. The two sides ran five contests, and his men dropped all of them, surrendering the crew's vital hands, namely its shipwright, navigator, and doctor, plus the flag itself, and leaving the remnants in ruins. Questioned afterward by the Straw Hats, he and his former colleagues cheerfully owned that the switch had been entirely voluntary, then sailed away while Foxy swore vengeance on Luffy.
In the filler Foxy's Return Arc, Kibagaeru seized the Foxy Pirates once Foxy dropped the closing event and shut him out, taking up a whip against Luffy in the struggle before finally agreeing to let his old rival reclaim the captaincy. He slipped away from the crew for unexplained reasons at some point during the timeskip. His name fuses the Japanese words for fang and frog, spelling out the meaning of his former crew's title.

Kibagaeru is the former captain of the Fanged Toad Pirates who lost his crew and captaincy to Foxy in a Davy Back Fight and afterward joined the Foxy Pirates.
Kibagaeru's Fanged Toad Pirates lost all five contests of a Davy Back Fight against Foxy's crew, costing him his shipwright, navigator, doctor, and flag, and he and his remaining men chose to join Foxy's crew rather than stay with what was left of their own.
Kibagaeru is a broad, heavyset man with a gray mustache who wears ornate buccaneer attire, including an orange vest, a light purple scarf, a captain's blue coat, and a tricorne hat, and his frequently crossed eyes give him a frog like look.
In the filler Foxy's Return Arc, Kibagaeru seizes control of the Foxy Pirates when Foxy forfeits a contest, fighting Luffy with a whip before eventually agreeing to let Foxy reclaim the captaincy.
