Lago

Of middling height and built on the heavy side, Lago has a round face framed by curly brown hair, and he never seems to be without his sunglasses. His sleeveless white shirt carries a band of concentric yellow and black rings along its lower edge and a pattern of triangles in alternating orange and yellow near the top. Ragged brown trousers cropped at the knee and a blue sash knotted at his waist complete the look.

Just like his Phoenix Pirate companions, Lago holds the bonds of friendship dear. He is convinced that Puzzle is fated to be the next Pirate King, and the loss of Vigaro struck him hard. Pride runs deep in him, and he threw himself fully into reclaiming the crew's Jolly Roger from the Accino Family's grip.

In years past, Lago and his crew pushed into the New World, where a rival ship crushed them, killing Vigaro and leaving Puzzle hurt, forcing a retreat into the Grand Line's earlier waters. Reaching Hyokaido, they lost their Jolly Roger to the Accino Family and feigned Puzzle's death so the bounty hunters would not summon the Marines, after which the family coerced them into luring other crews into a trap. He wields a sword and, backed by his crewmates, managed to drive off a pack of Domo penguins.

When the Straw Hat Pirates crossed paths with the disguised Phoenix Pirates, the crew answered Chopper's care and Luffy's hospitality with drugged wine, meaning to commandeer the Thousand Sunny, but Sanji, Franky, and Robin had only faked sleep and stopped the scheme, prompting Stansen to order surrender. Brindo soon turned up to taunt them, and after Luffy fought back, Lago and the others rallied behind Puzzle to assault the bounty hunters' stronghold, scatter the penguins, and save their ship. Once the Accino Family had fallen and the flags were retrieved, Lago again set course for the New World with the Straw Hats, plunging eagerly into the fray when Campacino moved to intercept them.
