Maccus is an anime-only figure from the second TV Special who, with his partner Bonney, fled Zap's ship and joined Amanda in chasing a hidden treasure. What begins as greed grows into genuine devotion, and he ends up an adoptive father to Amanda and her siblings.
Tall and crowned by a large afro, part of it gathered into a ponytail at the back, Maccus carries stubble on his chin and broad lips that recall Usopp's. He wears a yellow and green shirt stamped with an orange letter M, held up by red suspenders, and rounds out the look with low-slung yellow shades, light brown cargo pants, and brown boots.
At the outset Maccus reads as a coward with no loyalty; whenever danger looms, he and Bonney are first to propose fleeing or ditching the treasure, Amanda, and the children, though in the end they never actually abandon the kids. A braver core emerges later, and he throws himself at enemies he has no hope of beating to keep Amanda's group safe. He and Bonney prove deeply caring, taking the orphans in as their own. Lying, however, is not his strength; he nearly exposed their ruse while spinning a tale to the Straw Hats about a family vacation.
Physically Maccus is unremarkable, with the strength of an ordinary man, enough to haul cargo and row a boat but not to trade blows with a well-armed pirate like Zap, though his endurance is real, since he kept rising against Zap after savage beatings. He fought clumsily with one of the knives Zap had hurled into a wall, only to have it wrested away and turned on him. A month before crossing paths with the Straw Hats, he and Bonney were treasure-hunting pirates captured by Zap and put to work as laborers; while moving cargo they met Amanda and her siblings and struck a deal to find her father's treasure, escaping by lifeboat and digging tirelessly once ashore. When the Straw Hats landed, the pair panicked and hid, posed as a vacationing family until the lie collapsed, then confessed their hunt and led the crew to their dug-out shelter. After Zap and the Bayan Pirates seized Luffy and Amanda, Maccus and Bonney crept aboard the enemy ship to save her, fought Zap bravely, and were beaten. Once the Straw Hats brought down Bayan and Zap, the two retired from piracy, adopted Amanda, Holy, and Milia, and revealed the treasure to be a giant pearl inside a massive clam before parting from the crew as a family.
