Appearance

Stocky and round, Manboshi towers as a large merman, his bulk obvious next to the slim Madame Shyarly. His tail bears the family's polka-dot pattern in a black shade flecked with white and lined with red scales, while brown hair and red head-fins finish his look. He tops it with a blue hat crossed by a grubby white band, serrated below and dotted within, and ties on a yellow sash like his elder siblings wear. For the Levely he set that aside, turning up at the Red Port in a plain dark shirt.

Personality

Of the three princes, Manboshi is far and away the most spirited. He phrases his words as song and likes to blurt his catchphrase "Akkamanbo," though where Ryuboshi sings in tune, Manboshi disregards the scale entirely. His behavior runs to the erratic, as when he broke off a hunt for the Straw Hats to invite Ryuboshi into a dance. The singing itself sprang from a grave reason: he and Ryuboshi took it up to keep their sister Shirahoshi cheerful and dry-eyed, since her weeping could call down Sea Kings and put the whole island at risk.

History

His royal rank grants Manboshi some authority, and with Fukaboshi and Ryuboshi he forms the strongest trio in the Neptune Army. The three cut down drug-boosted sea beasts that had routed the rest of the soldiers, and the New Fish-Man Pirate officers had to swallow several Energy Steroids just to stand against them. Manboshi fights with an enormous medieval longsword, slicing through a pack of enhanced sea monsters in moments, though the anime had Daruma shatter the weapon. In their youth, he and his brothers minded the baby Shirahoshi whenever their mother Otohime went off to preach, and after Otohime's murder they were tasked with becoming strong enough to guard their sister.

Through the Fish-Man Island Arc, the princes looked into intruders at Mermaid Cove and tried to pass along a message from Jinbe. Once Hody Jones grabbed power and paraded their captured father, the three sped to Gyoncorde Plaza, smashed the drugged Sea Beasts, and rushed the enemy officers, only to be overpowered after the foes dosed themselves with steroids. Hoe rescued them as the Straw Hats arrived, and Manboshi later threw himself between Shirahoshi and Vander Decken's thrown knives, taking a severe wound when he blocked Hody's Fish-Man Karate. After Luffy settled the fight, the brothers chained the beaten enemies and waved the Straw Hats off toward the New World.

Later the family journeyed to Mary Geoise for the Levely, where Manboshi saw Charlos move to enslave Shirahoshi and felt relief when Mjosgard stepped in. When Charlos struck again with Bartholomew Kuma's aid, the brothers leapt to defend her in spite of the danger to their country, slipping a laser blast before Mjosgard told them to leave matters to the nationless Sai and Leo. With the Levely concluded, the Neptune Family sailed home with Garp, who talked over the meeting and the Arabasta affair with Neptune.
