Appearance

Nekomamushi is a towering yellow feline mink streaked in dark brown, armed with sharp fangs, claws, and a heavy banded tail. A wild blonde mane circles his neck and trails down his spine, and a scar cuts from the left of his brow to his cheek. He favors a broad red robe dotted with orange and yellow, a pink haramaki, tan sandals, and white clothing underneath, and is seldom without his kiseru pipe. Jack's torture cost him his left hand along with much of that forearm, speared away by the Beasts Pirates, and by the time he reached Onigashima he had fitted the stump with a double-barreled gun.

Personality

Proud of his rank as a co-ruler of the Mokomo Dukedom, Nekomamushi is fierce and unforgiving, a hard-headed brawler whom Inuarashi once dismissed as an obstinate imbecile. He hates being ordered about, calls himself a freedom-loving man, and brushes off even Chopper's medical orders to go enjoy himself, though needles secretly terrify him. Under the bluster he cares deeply about his friends and the minks at his side, sheltering the Heart Pirates and drawing Jack's spears toward himself to spare wounded comrades. His loyalty is unbreakable, and he endured losing an arm rather than betray Raizo's hiding spot. Feline instincts often win out, from licking his paws and batting at balls to feasting on lasagna and dozing, and he carries his own purr of a laugh, 'Goronyanya.'

History

In childhood Nekomamushi befriended Inuarashi, and the two sailed off from Zou toward Wano only to wreck, be rescued, and fall under the care of Kouzuki Oden, whom they served as retainers. They later stowed away on the vessels of Whitebeard and afterward Roger, roaming the seas with Oden, then chose to remain in Wano with Toki rather than press on to Laugh Tale. After Oden's execution each mink faulted the other for his death, and a bitter feud drove them to split the Mokomo Dukedom, Inuarashi holding sway by day and Nekomamushi by night.

When Jack invaded Zou hunting Raizo, Nekomamushi battled him for five straight nights, then weathered poison gas and a full day of torture, refusing to surrender the ninja even as his arm was cut away. Sanji's group found and tended him, and he eventually reconciled enough with Inuarashi to call a truce for Momonosuke's sake, confirming Raizo was safe and helping form their Ninja-Pirate-Mink-Samurai Alliance. He then departed to recruit Marco for the looming war.

Arriving in Wano with Marco and Izou, Nekomamushi fought beside the Nine Red Scabbards in the Onigashima raid, clashing with Kaidou, helping behead Orochi, and finally hunting down Charlotte Perospero, whose actions had brought about Pedro's death. Once the moonlight returned his Sulong form, he struck Perospero down and avenged his friend. With Kaidou defeated, he stood among the Scabbards as Momonosuke rose to shogun and joined in naming Carrot the next ruler of Zou, afterward settling into the Flower Capital as a yakuza boss.
