Wavy blonde hair frames Sarai's face, with the bangs falling toward his right cheek. A pronounced chin carries a bit of stubble. The manga additionally gives him a tattoo across his left bicep.

His wardrobe pairs a lopsided leather jacket studded with assorted pins over a simple sleeveless top bearing the kanji for sell, and a pendant hangs at his neck.

Sarai shares the dishonest, predatory streak common among pirates who deal in captives. Cowardice and superstition also define him: a grotesquely swollen Oden was enough for him to imagine a fabled umibozu. Dread of Whitebeard ran through the entire crew, Sarai no exception. A saber hung at his side, though he was never seen putting it to use in a fight.

Thirty years back, somewhere out in the New World, Sarai's crew plotted to seize Toki by dangling the promise of a ride toward Wano. She saw through the lie and bolted, and Sarai with a few others pinned her down against the shoreline. With escape cut off, Toki was about to trigger her time power when a bloated, disfigured Oden surged up out of the water. Taking the figure for an umibozu, Sarai and the rest scattered in fright.

The Takotopus captain Karma later arrived himself to claim both Oden and Toki, only for Whitebeard to put him down in an instant, scattering the surviving crew in terror.
