Uzuki Tempura

Tall and distinctive, Tempura had a slender, curving head whose silhouette echoed the fried dish he was named for. He gathered his dark hair into a topknot, sported long sweeping eyebrows, and trimmed a slim mustache that trailed down to his chin. A lengthy strand of beads hung to his chest over a kimono draped with a long cape.

Tempura carried the same unbending honor as the daimyo jailed beside him, Shimotsuki Ushimaru and Fugetsu Omusubi. He would not stoop to brawling over food while starving, and instead willingly surrendered his portion to Kaidou's son Yamato. His loyalty to the Kouzuki Family held firm to the very end; rather than submit to Orochi or Kaidou, he chose to fall in battle, buying his life to help Yamato survive for the prophesied conflict two decades later.

Tempura ruled Udon answering to shogun Kouzuki Sukiyaki, until Orochi seized the shogunate, executed Oden, and summoned every daimyo to demand their submission or their deaths. The lords refused and revolted, but Kaidou and the Beasts Pirates crushed the uprising. Captured alongside Ushimaru and Omusubi, Tempura was caged in a cave on Onigashima until despair forced the trio to yield. Later Kaidou imprisoned young Yamato there too and set a cruel game, leaving one bowl of food and swords to fight over it; the samurai instead gave the meal to the boy and befriended him, helping him pore over Oden's logbook. After ten abandoned days, they used Kaidou's own swords to slice through the boulder sealing the cave and charged out to confront the pirate so Yamato could go free, and Tempura is presumed to have met his death in that final stand. In the anime he coated his blade in Armament Haki during the escape.
